and I keep getting something called Steam. What exactly is that?

I installed it once all ready but instead of letting me start playing the game it took me to the Steam screen and I couldn't see where to go to start playing NV.

Steam is a ehhh...someone help me here....

Bottom line: You need Steam to operate NV.

Edit: I didn't read your post fully, oops. I've never played on Steam, so you're on your own.

Steam was created by Valve (the Half-Life people) as a digital distribution platform, although it does other things as well. In FONV's case Steam is mostly just an anti-piracy device, once Steam has been installed and its verified your copy you can set it to off line mode and not worry about it.
