I'm in Novac right now (so I guess still early on?) and I was just wondering if there was any way to store my items somewhere? I already did the quest with Boone (who is now my companion) and he killed the inn-lady, and I didn't rent a room from her beforehand. So is there anyplace I could just drop my items, or store them somewhere at this point in the game?

Well you could store them in any container really but they may not be safe seeing as some containers respawn. You should still be able to get the room in Novac, just do that one quest with the repconn facility and talk to the general store guy. He should give you the key. ( sorry its been a while i forget the name of the quest)

after doing that quest talk to the shopkeeper in novac and he will give you a key to one of the rooms

Hmm. General store guy in novac, which would be the gift shop guy? Or is there one at the repconn facility? I'm going to go there now.

I don't know if I would recommend the Novac hotel as a storage place as that loading area sometimes freezes. I always use Wolfhorn Ranch to store stuff and I haven't had any problems with it.

Do the Brotherhood of Steel missions and put your stuff in the BoS safehouse.

Any containers that are yours work, but other people's wont work since someone will probably steal them.

I agree. Apart from they're obviously not far enough in the game yet, so one of the other options ^^ would be more useful. I use the BoS safehouse though because you can fast-travel straight there as opposed to having to go through loads of loading screens [e.g. Lucky 38]
