WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!??!?!!

Post » Mon Aug 10, 2009 9:10 pm

So I am a hardcoe CoD fan that likes to "run and gun" (and fairly skilled at it, if I do say so myself) and I picked up Crysis because, well, it looked awesome and indeed it is, BUT!!

I get freaking bad scores in this game! I know this is not CoD and I do mix up different playstyles, but seriously?

I just played 3 games where I got the scores:

1-10
6-3
1-8

In game number one I walked around (keeping up the cloaking), but got killed in the back almost every god damn time.. Even got pummeled in the face by a cloaked person without him getting out of the cloaking!!

Second game I camped like sh*t and bloody hell I hated that, but atleast I got positve K/D

The third game I tried to walk around once more, but again I got freaking killed by players I couldn't see!!

I just started to laugh when I played game number 3.. I spawned, walked 2 feet, killed in the back.... spawned, walked around for a bit, got naded instantly... spawned, walked 2 feet, pummeled in the back... spawned, managed to kill one in the back, but got killed right after that... in the back.. Spawned and meh, you know the rest..

Seriously! Is it all about camping and waiting for an enemy to pass by or how to hell are you guys getting good scores (and please don't say camping 'cause that is just low and boring)??

I know that my framerate is off like sh*t (please fix Crytek), but come on... I seriously must be doing something wrong here!

I found this. (still Do) But you do get used to the tactics. Like you I tried the camper route and hated it. Definitely a run and gunner type.

As you level up you will notice the difference my suit is 8-7-12 and I'm level 23. My loadout is something like:

Feline with suppressor and extended mag.

Stealth Enhance

Nano Exchange - Recharge with each kill

Weapon pro - Reload quicker.

Learning the maps is a massive help and bear in mind that the range on the feline is pretty dog **** so the like of 'Downed Bird' I am way out of my comfort zone.

So my advice. Level up, try the loadout above and get on the 'Terminal' 'Impact' and the CQB section of 'Lighthouse'

Mega fun when it all starts to click.

Can't wait to get the Scarab though hope it fits a suppressor and packs the puch I miss having the Feline :)

You can't expect to do great from the start. Just because you might be decent at COD doesn't mean you're good at any other shooter. Keep playing and learning and you will get results. Armor is more usefull than cloaking in most situations. Most players have learned to use armor when in duell so you better learn that fast or else you will not succeed. Try the different perks for each suit model as you level up and see what fits you. You can still see cloaked players so it's not very usefull in close situations and they might be using the perks for seeing cloaked enemies easier. Might explain your issue with it. You shouldn't give up already, it gets better!

Sounds like my style of play is similar to yours, I like running and gunning and getting in the opponents face. I think the vast majority of my deaths are being shot in the back or the side.

In this game the enhanced mobility the suit and cloak offer in combination with the random spawn system mean that flanking and shots to the back are probably the most likely way kills happen. This is especially true in games where there is no well defined "front", or, as in crash site where the front is fluid.

Engagements to the front depend largely on who gets the drop on their opponent first but are also affected by the lag, weapon choice, distance etc.

My only advice is keep your eye on your flanks and don't assume you are safe anywhere, there are perks and attachments that can help like the suppressor, Jammer and Blind spot modules.

I've found capture the relay game mode to be better as at least you have a defined direction to the attack, I would expect the same to be true of assault and extraction though haven't tried either yet.

Of course, I do not expect that at all, but it is so god damn frustrating to get killed in the back for like 60% of all of your deaths..

I know I need to understand the mechanics of this game and especially about the different abilities you have, but I really dont feel like I have the chance to play the game before I get killed again..

My K/D is like 1.00 and dropping.. Im level 14 now, but still don't think this game is fun..

I don't understand why you would care so much about your K/D. Try some of the objective based modes insted of TD or FFA. I agree with Royalminer about capture the relay. For me it's the best mode. If you're 3+ players communicating it can be really enjoyable. Are you playing alone? If you play with friends you could create your own game and learn through that.

I'm not saying this game is for everybody so it might be that it's not for you... What I can say it that alot of friends I have played with have complained about the amount of bullets it takes to kill someone and about the cloaking ability. Thoese two things are mayor differences from other games if you haven't played KZ3. Takes time to get used to.

Well, I'm not a K/D whore, but it's absolutely no fun getting 1-10 scores.. This game is about getting kills and for some reasons (framerate and lag being some of them, lol) I get killed before I see a person I can shoot..

And it is actually that, which is my biggest problem.. I keep reminding myself to use the armor ability and stuff like that, WHEN I am in a 1v1 combat situation, but most of the time I just get killed from behind..

But you guys are maybe right.. I should just keep on playing and learn the game mechanics bit by bit..

"This game is about getting kills."
Well to an certain extent yes but it depends mostly on which game mode you play. This is the same for every FPS.
If you feel you get killed far too often from behind then change tactics. Just don't start shooting when you see an enemy. When you spot him. Scan the area fast whilst you're cloaking. If you see more enemies then wait and follow one of them for example. Or toss a grenade. Though don't use cloak at the same time as throwing a grenade since your energy will be lost. I'm not the kinda guy who camps or like to hide but sometimes you need to pic your fights to progress in this game. Even if it's possible to take out several enemies at the same time most of the times you will just get an unnecessary death.

I dont know if youve been switching weapon or not but if you have that could also be a problem. focus on one weapon so you get a bunch of attachment you like for it. in this game, having the better weapon does actually count for something, thats why, level 10 and below is locked out of the other game types.

The fun in COD is to run around and shoot. This is because its a arcade style game where all the game mechanics are simple and straight forward. This allows you to do well lone wolf and get a good score and have fun that way. It's very difficult almost impossible to achieve a good score by running around alone in crysis 2.

Play with friends or find some people with mice to play with. Working to win as a team for this game is much more rewarding. Communicating will reduce the number of deaths from behind immensely.

If you do want to play by yourself in game modes such as tdm then i would suggest patrolling and controlling areas of the map at a time

engagements in crysis 2 are more intimate than CoD, or any other FPS for that matter. positioning, map knowledge, energy management, basic gun skills play out a more extended role in this game. it's not just a point and shoot kind of gameplay; you have to be able to approach situations tactically. I used to be shot at the back a LOT of times before (i still do from time to time), but all you got to do is adapt, pretty much. oh and make it a habit to activate max armor before shooting someone, even if the person may not be looking at you. it increases survivability if someone ambushes you from your flank.

Oh man if I had a nickel for every time I've been shot in the back. The other night I played Crash Site on Skyline and died 10 times. 9 of those deaths were the result of me being shot in the back; three of them immediately after I re-spawned.

Hmmm, well personally I can say is that you should lean more towards stealth enhance because its a perk that really helps out once you max it out. I am level 31 and I use stealth enhance, mobility enhance, and enegry transfer. I suggest try using that as well as the feline with the silencer and extended mags. Trust me, you'll be catching people with suprises.

Another tip that I use, is trying to manage to bring some skills from other FPS games you I've played and bring it to crysis 2 (I know alot of people do that). I know everyone plays Call of Duty and tries to think that run and gunning is the best objective or even tatic. Its not. Try to use what you got everytime before you die, so shoot out a gernade, throw some shots at a person, and if you can't get him or her. Call him/her out to your team mates and tell them where he or she is at so they can be aware that when they cross that location they will probably end up finding that person or die from that person. This is why we have mics, communication is a key objective to winning the match. Though back to what I was saying, I use the sliding motion to crysis and think about F.E.A.R 2. The stealth attacks I highly think of Killzone 3 with the brutal melees. The fast pace movements I think of Unreal Tournament or even Resistance 2. The perk setlist of three, five, and seven. I think of Call of Duty:Modern warfare. Try to remember what you did with those games and use them on here. Its all in a process of learning and using it on a new enviroment.

So best of luck.

If anythink add me on PSN, I wouldnt mind helping a fellow teamate out.

Its skinless_2479.

make it a habit to activate max armor before shooting someone, even if the person may not be looking at you. it increases survivability if someone ambushes you from your flank.

This +1

In addition, nano-vision is very helpful when used properly. They've nerfed it a bit since the PC/PS3 demos (think they increased energy drain), but still useful for spotting guys sneaking around in stealth. Get in the habit of toggling it on/off when moving into areas to highlight campers.

I think that CoD is a lot more forgiving in terms of gunfights - in Crysis I've found that 1:1 they're over a lot quicker. Taking on multiple enemies (as you could in CoD) is pretty much suicide unless you have the drop on them. Damage multipliers seem to be higher and aiming accuracy is therefore a lot more important (in my opinion). There's been a few times where I've taken the lazy option and just gone to unload a clip into someone's body - they just turned round and dropped me with a couple of headshots.

The answer to your problem is LAG ... this game has the worst LAG i've ever come across in my life ... you'll just have to grin an bear it fella my games are up an down like a whores knickers an its got the point where i dont give a monkeys about having a good KD, you just gotta play an hope you get a game where your not 1 or 2 bar signal... it helps when you level up of course an unlock better weapons but at the end of the day P2P hosting will always meen abismal LAG so untill developers pull thier heads out thier arses an use dedicated servers only the hosts an a few lucky beggers will ever have whats considered a good KD

P2P dose not make for a fair an balanced game....
