Does this game need some form of auto-aim?

Post » Sun Aug 30, 2009 9:57 am

I'm beginning to wonder whether this game online, should include the slightest auto-aim. I think, since the game has no auto-aim, I believe this is why everyone complains how their bullets don't register.

Now before you go, auto-aim is for noobs, listen to this:

The reason there is a LITTLE amount of automatic auto-aim in console FPS is because the thumbsticks on the controllers aren't as precise a mouse would be on a PC, and that's why you notice games like Call of Duty and Battlefield have auto-aim to help you hit your target easier. Without auto-aim in Call of Duty, I guarantee you getting kills would be 10x more difficult without it.

What do you guys think?

The game already has aim assist. Its noticable if you pay attention. I once couldnt kill a guy, because another guy and the aim assist where keeping me from aiming at him.

Hmmm I haven't noticed it, I'll be sure to pay closer attention in the future.

Get better with your aim?

Things come over time, if your not prepared to get better at the game dont expect a crutch put in place for you. Aim assist is retarded enough to me.

The game definitely has auto aim or aim assist or whatever you want to call it.

I was playing on wall street team death match. Spot an enemy only a few meters in front of me running at me. I open fire and as the guy runs past my cross hairs go nuts sticking to him. Had to be auto aim or aim assist. This is one of the few times I've noticed it and to be honest.

All console FPS have at least some sort of aim assist. Thumb sticks are just not that accurate and it's needed.

It is very subtle in Crysis 2 and I think it should stay as subtle as possible. I would hate to see the same kind of auto aim that's in COD or Halo but that's just my opinion.

I have good aim, my K/D is 1.9. I was just stating that I've never seen any auto-aim where my sight drags to a person or aligns itself on someone and maybe that's why people complain about poor hit detection because there seems to me that there is no auto aim.

I'm not saying aim assist as in as soon as I aim down sights, my sights go 20 feet to the left and lock on target. Just a very little tug where it helps align your sight better but doesn't "snap" onto the guy for you.

Yeah I'm not saying make the auto aim a huge thing like I stated above, but I've never noticed any sort of tug like you mentioned. That's why I brought up this thread. I am very capable of killing, just always seemed odd to me how I never once noticed any thing that looked remotely like auto aim.

But eh, I love this game to death :D

Auto aim should never exist in any shooter ever multiplayer wise. It ruins the game and screws you up,sorry but having a game aim for you is not fun or does it take effort.

You need some kind of aim assist, at least on consoles. It also does not have any effect on "skill" or "effort", it just makes everything smoother and more fun. I think some things in Crysis are absolutely great, but the gun-play is way behind CoD or Halo.

CoD lock on auto aim is a piss take to the extreme, BC2 did it perfectly. Crysis 2 had **** CoD lock on in demo and that was removed thank god.

The reason it works in CoD is because the lateral movement speed is fast enough so that you can actually dodge bullets. Try strafing in Crysis, it doesn't work.

Bad Company 2 did it perfectly because the aim assist was disabled for multiplayer.

Imo, I don't think there should be anything done so it is Easier to kill people!!! Make this game a game you need skill to be good in! Great as it is.

Not even at least.

What games need is a superior aiming system. You'll one day realize that it is not even the same system depending on the game you play... it's even harder for gamers to adapt. Mouse + Keyboard remains pretty much the same over and over. I removed the aim assist in BF:BC and its extremely precise and responsive, but it's also unique and won't appeal to everyone. Same for R6 Vegas 2, there is no auto-aim at all in that game and I get mostly a perfect kills/headshos ratio.

There is only 2 reasons why some gamers affirm that auto-aim is required on console:

- They may not understand that auto-aim is just there to compensate for bad controls (poorly executed), not to help you.

- Maybe they are just too bad and never played one game that actually had decent controls and could performed well enough to realize how many negative point the auto-aim actually brings and doesn't do any good.

Well to be honest my example here is the only time the "tug" as you put it happened to me in 15 to 20 games online. It's very subtle and I like it the way it is. My reticule isn't getting dragged across the map like in other shooters. That used to do my head in. At least with Crysis 2 you do have to get the aim right yourself for the most part.

^this ^

It's just as bad in HALO Reach, Crysis 2 is probably worse because of the randomness of it. Seems 5 times out of 10 you're aiming on your own, then pow the gun starts following people all over the place ruining your chance for kills.

I for one have no problems hitting things in games when I'm able to disable auto aim, proved it to those who said you need it on consoles on bungie.net by making a video in Reach of me quite easily hitting moving targets that auto aim didn't have an effect on. I missed one shot out of an entire clip, and that was because I didn't lead my shot properly, and wasn't the game.
Wish games gave you the option to disable it like they used to. I believe it also makes it easier for people to make aim hacks. Something I have definitely seen on xbox 360 Crysis 2 already.

This is why we have such sensitive anologue sticks and the ability to adjust that sensitivity from in game menus. For me any way, I think it disadvantages me, often dragging my aim away from where I was actually pointing my gun.

Edit: Didn't realise it could be disabled. I'm going to do that next game I play.

MW2 had an overbearing at times auto aim, I've only had Crysis 2 jerk me around a couple of times that I could really notice. I think it does it's job better than some other shooters. I know there was an option to turn it off in the demo and I believe you can do it in the full game too.

If all you play is CoD, you get used to relatively large aim-assist and can't hit anything in games such as Crysis with minimal AA. At the risk of sounding harsh, it's not the game's fault, it's yours. Me, I play a lot of Halo and BC2, I'm not as good as the people who played Quake and Unreal but I can hold my own. If you're having problems aiming, just practice and lay off CoD MP, you'll improve.

What about just properly advanced players with enough experience to affirm if games really need or not any sort of auto-aim if the controls are well done from the ground up?
