Steam kicks ass in 2010

Post » Sat Sep 12, 2009 5:58 pm

Here's some heavy duty ammunition to use against "PC gaming is dead" proponents: Valve's digital distribution platform, Steam, continued its torrid growth in 2010, generating nearly $1 billion in PC game sales.

....

The top 10 games on Steam for 2010:

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision) - $98.2 Million
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision) - $39.4 Million
3. Left 4 Dead 2 (Valve) - $36.0 Million
4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Electronic Arts) - $25.4 Million
5. Sid Meier's Civilization V (2K Games) - $21.9 Million
6. Portal (Valve) - $20.0 Million
7. Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda Softworks) - $17.0 Million
8. Metro 2033 (THQ) - $13.4 Million
9. Mafia II (2K Games) - $11.9 Million
10. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising (THQ) - $10.8 Million

LOL. I only have one Steam game, and that's Black Ops...

I plan on only using Steam for all my future purchases though, highly satisfied with it. :) As long as it can stay cheaper or same price as other stores, I will use it.

So hmm.. Crysis 2 needs to get on Steam pronto and hopefully allow a pretty early headstart for pre-downloading (like 3 days) so I can get right in the action on launch day, and no bandwith issues from a million people downloading at the same time.

I recently made my very first Steam account 3 weeks ago.

So far, I'm loving it. I downloaded most of Valve's games (Half Life, Half Life 2, All episodes, Portal, GMod), but I intend to download more games in the near future.

My next game will be Deus Ex, since I really want to play it. Hopefully more to come. :)

I only use steam for the games that MUST have a steam account to run, Efven then they are still the Hard copy in a presentation case, all the others are also in the case >points over there, ;-}
I dont mind Steam dont get me wrong, and i know i could add many of my games also, but I love the mint collection> points again :-}
and its a buzz to go and get the per-order on the day anyway.

Steam was a dream come true. Didn't need to mess with the CDs anymore.
I only have 31 games on Steam, but planning on getting more.

I only buy games through Steam that I don't really want, not in a bad way. For example I brought CoD MW2 through there, ok games and a good bit of fun. But Crysis, Warhead, Crysis 2 I will have the disk for.

Yeah, it's quite a lot of money, still way less then the 360/Ps3/Wii generates, but not bad for a PC-app :P
But, "hardcoe" gaming is the dying part of Pc if anything really, casual games like CoD, WoW, Farmville, Sims etc will survive due to casuals, it's hardcoe games like Crysis, Homefront, Battlefield etc. that can prove that Pc is still alive...

It's only that the PC sort of cycles with the consoles now and will do until free to play changes all that. Right now either new consoles come out and bring the quality bar of ports back up. Or they don't which leaves the PC as the only gaming platform that isn't utterly obsolete either way things can only improve.

Steam is really the best thing to come to PC gaming. The ease of access gives everyone a chance to play and allows players to interact with each other.
