Reverse-Pickpocketing Kit Onto NPC's

Post » Wed Oct 07, 2009 11:14 pm

Anyone else having fun equipping NPC's in various places with better armor and weapons? Or maybe just randomly handing out hats to people?

I've noticed some NPC's won't keep their weapons holstered or slung, it just stays in their inventory, anyone know why this is?

Also, lots but not all NPC's will regenerate when you revisit an area after a few days because they have lost what you've equipped them with, because of this it is best to mainly arm/equip unique NPC's. So make a save before you plant an area or a bunch of good kit may vanish.

Makes me wish there were more defensive type scenarios or at least random raiding parties.

One oddity I abuse with this is in Nipton, I usualy just shoot the guy who won the lottery before he can say anything.

Well turns out that if you do that, he keeps getting better and trys to tell you hes won the lottery when you drop back bay. . . So I just shoot him again

and again
and again
and again
and again

Ive also done this to the ghouls over at Repconn. (Jason Bright and Harland will come back from the dead if you shoot them before they can say anything aparently but Chris aparently stays dead)

but thats Xbox, not sure if It would work on a PC game.

They must just be wearing regular power armor, won't they refuse to wear faction armor?

On the topic of the actual thread, I usually only do this to people that sometimes get killed by hostile animals and to people wearing unique clothing that I want.

This time around I made my own security force in Novac all wearing Sierra Madre armor and carrying decent weapons. They guard my compound. There's that one roving trader who stops roving and stays in Novac, well he was pushed over to guard the gate with a light MG. My head of security is of course Cliff Briscoe who sits behind his desk. :celebration:

Can you plat faction armor on other factions (For example: NCR armor on a Legion Recruit so I can laugh as he get's attacked by his friends) I know the armor has to have better DT/DR I'm just wondering if this will work.

L1: "Oh man where did this neat NCR ranger armor come from? Let me try it on..."
L2, L3, L4: "-gasp- NCR RANGER!!! ATTACK!!!!"
L1: "No, guys... It's me! Honest! True to Caesar, See?!?!"
L2, L3, L4: "Liar!! -They proceed to slice him up with their machetes-"

I don't know but if it works it could be epic. Going to try it!!!

Edit: Okay this is weird.

Cottonwood Cove, equipped Veteran Legionary with Ranger Combat Armor. Much to my surprise it worked, he didn't drop it like I figured he would. Good so far. Then he walks right by all the other Legion guys wearing his NCR getup and they don't even notice him. Boo! That could have been an endless source of amusemant and a great way to assassinate people.

NCR would almost certainly equip BoS armor, given the Legion/NCR experiment I just did.

I pick-pocketed Red Lucy's cowboy duster while she was sleeping, and gave her a prosttute outfit. Now I get a laugh every time I enter the Thorn.

No its Brotherhood T-51 B and normal T-45. So far only two people have rejected wearing it. (Regular NCR NCP)

Wana know a trick? Any time you find some damaged weapons or loot don't sell but fix with weapon repair kits. I have 653 weapon repair kits Thanx to the vending machine in the abandon BoS bunker so I dont spend a penny on them. I redeem the complementary vouchers every three days when they arrive in the drop box. Then I sell the Weapons once they're fixed and I get tons of caps! :D Loot is getting progressively harder to find tho.
