3D Trailer @ E3 - Story

Post » Fri Oct 16, 2009 4:29 pm

Was it real time?
Will we ever know? :-D

First of all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtrOqg6wTtI
The uploader is a Crytek Employee who was involved in the making of this trailer.

I find it odd how you dont really find threads about single interviews or pieces of footage but rather all these redundant questions about details. The best threads in actual forums (hint hint) are discussions rather than one person asking a question and everyone jumping in to complain about how consoles are svcking the life out of this franchise and the world is going to end if their naive opinions arent considered in the development process.

Anyway, here's what I'm taking from this trailer:

A) The graphics on PC are fine, but "real time"? What kind of PC is supposed to render this so smoothly, they didnt have to fear the slightest hick ups? It was an important presentation and live-streamed to millions of people after all. I do believe that the retail version can look like this in the end, but Im not buying these bold statements especially when they dont even attempt to prove them.
If it is realtime (and probably even if its not) it should represent the current stage in development. Insert your opinion here.

B) My personal speculation about story elements appearing in this trailer:

1)Prophet is standing in a room with two soldiers, watching Alcatraz making his way through the city. Ive read many posts saying these two are guards who keep him (prophet) from helping the player or something. ****, their weapons arent even aimed at him and hes wearing a NS2. He could kill them in the blink of an eye, also the player is being hunted down for owning a NS2 - the only way Prophet has one is Crynet gave it to him. This leaves 2 conclusions:
- He's a bad guy now, working for a large company rather than the his country, and most irritatingly couldnt care less about this whole alien invasion/infestation going on. Doesnt fit his character as he was their fiercest enemy in the first game. If this is whats happening then Im pretty sure there will be a boss fight against him.
- He's somehow being forced to work for Crynet. So hes cooperating but looking for a way out and maybe through the player he will find one. Interesting idea at this point, but never going to happen, I just have to say it, COOP MODE! alcatraz and prophet. they could release it as DLC later.

2) The SCAR 2: Seeing how all the Crynet Ops carry one I suspect that we will not start out with one, but rather the player will obtain it as soon as he starts getting chased down by Crynet Ops, from the first guy he kills. This idea only makes sense when you assume that fighting Crynet wont be the first thing you do in this game.

3) Aliens are coming from underground -> Were they there before humanity? If the are why are they all warriors and why do they awake sometime between 2020 and 2023? Or do they just infest the Underground using the deserted (after the civilian evacuation) infrastructure to surprise the military which is moving through the streets?

If you've made it all the way here without skipping I'm interested in your opinion - discuss please.

So I ask, what is your opinion on Nomad, who supposedly is not out of the picture yet,?

Crysis2 updated impressions, content provided by Gamestop, ...................The demo that we saw was running on the Xbox 360 and started with the main character, Nomad, jumping several stories down a tall building. We watched as an EA representative played the game, engaging the nanosuit's powers to take down enemies in a variety of different ways. He switched on the power boost to jump from building to building, and used the predator camouflage to sneak up on victims and take them down silently. We saw plenty of cool stuff from the demo, such as the ability to fling enemies out of windows, sending them tumbling down to the streets below. Nomad could also rip off mounted gun turrets, Master Chief-style, and mow down enemy forces. <<<<<

@OP - Please cut the language down.

On topic: I've always been a bit skeptical of Prophet. He's always been a bit... secretive and mysterious. I wouldn't put much past him. He could be a damn alien for all i know :D

I'm pretty disappointed that Nomad isn't in the picture yet. :(

I am very excited to find out about Prophet though. =) I will probably care more about Prophet than this Alcatraz fool throughout the game, no matter what side he is on. I probably couldn't care less if Alcatraz dies, as I want my Nomad! ;)

The 3D Trailer was real time, so that's what the PC build will look like. Even though that trailer has a noticeably slow framerate. Just look at the flames/fire when he is running around.

I assume that the "aliens" were actually here before us, and are coming to reclaim their land. We haven't seen any civilians yet because they are still underground until the alien military makes it safe for them to surface. :)

You know what would be kick-ass? An expansion of Crysis 2 where we play as Prophet. :P

I reckon what would've been even cooler than a comic would've been a CE3 cinematic, short film. Could've been marketed as "CryEngine3 - The worlds first game engine capable of rendering movie quality footage in real time"

In a G4TV interview with Cevat Yerli, he points out that we now play as Alcatraz. Either he is keeping a story line spoiler from happening, or their truly is no more Nomad.

I am inclined to believe Cevat's words though, and he confirmed that the main protagonist that we play as is Alcatraz. I hope he is concealing a spoiler when he says that though. ;)

youre talking about the first gameplay footage (with the sniping and stealth kill from behind? i think we all saw that^^
by EA employee you mean nathan camarillo? i thought he was a crytek employee. gamespot call the main character "Nomad" but as far as i know they were just assuming.
my opinion on nomad is: he was a rather flat character, did he ever refuse orders or express any personal opinion? i dont think so, i think they needed a standard action hero and they created one. to be honest i dont see why everyone seems to be missing him so much.
right now im reading "Black Man" (or "Thirteen", in the UK) by Richard Morgan. im only on page 50 but so far it might be the best book ive ever read. especially when i imagine the same author writing for a game. i wouldnt worry too much about the story.

originally i was actually hoping we would play prophet in crysis 2. that or they would make a crysis 1 addon about his story, so we finally get behind all the secrecy that Shinanigans mentioned. unless hes a stereotypical villain (a character type morgan promised not to include, "no good and bad, they all have their reasons" or something along those lines) im guessing if they make a warhead type of addon for crysis 2, it'll focus on prophet.

p.s. i didnt know there was a rule about cursing here, i will tone it down.

Well, that is the huge difference in power between consoles and PCs. I've seen one guy on youtube with a high end, overclocked PC on water cooling, get over 100 fps on Crysis with maxed out settings. On a console, your stuck with what they gave you. On a PC, your only limited to what equipment you can afford to buy.

For some reason I was under the impression that we play as Nomad and Crynet only thinks that we're Alcatraz, because he should have had the suit. They then find out who he is, and hunt him.
Has any1 else heard such a story or was it just some guy speculating on a post I read?

Don't forget the huge gap in the story? What happened to Prophet? Sykes? and Dr. Rosenthal? and why did it F.F. to New York? Is Crytek planning to make a prequel to the story like Crysis:Warhead?

I think characters that arent IN crysis2 wont be mentioned in the first place. As hard as it sounds, from the writer's point of view that would mean risking fans' approval of a plot decision whereas if he simply leaves some stuff unanswered people can fill in the gaps how they want.
Dr. Rosenthal is hardly relevant now is she? She was only involved because she was an American imprisoned on enemy territory, basically she was the princess.
Prophet is there and obviously very important so I guess we're also going to get some of the missing information simply out of things he says.
Psycho and Nomad on the other hand, I'm afraid they might not be there this time around. if they are though, their introductions are going to be epic! Imagine the surprise moment when you come across one of these guys / their visually updated self, in broad daylight on top of some skyscraqer. One thing's for sure, every time a new NS wearing character shows up Im gonna be waiting for the moment he reveals himself to be one them :-D

In the EA Press Conference demonstration the normal soldiers called him Alcatraz. So could this Alcatraz character really be some Crynet-villain you steal the suit from??
Here's another idea: Prophet's working for Crynet (one way or the other) - maybe Nomad is, too. Maybe you really are Alcatraz and somehow obtain the NS2 that was supposed to be Nomad's. The military has your name because theyre your employer while Crynet may inititially not even know who theyre chasing after.

well we do seem to have some degree of specualtion, as I said we can only assume that it is Nomad in that review, as InternetWhiteKnight says, but I'm gunna guess that he will figure in it somewhere, but again, we know Prophets in there, but dark and sisnister comes to mind, as he was held captive by the Aliens for a while in Crysis. so Anthing is possible, thanks all for the input.. :D
