Split Screen Muliplayer

Post » Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:24 am

One quick question about the upcoming Crysis 2 release for Xbox and PS3. Will there be an option for split screen. I understand graphics would have to be reduced as always but it is worth the cost in graphics for that mode. I'm surprised at the lack of split screen games being released now. I mean come on some of us still have friends!! There is nothing more fun than playing a good split screen game with your family or friend. That why Nintendo is doing so well. I know it is a stretch since apparently everyone lives in a dark cave now and all their friends have names like, IeatPoo4breakfast or ShotYourFace123.

I don't think that it will be applied.
It will be very demanding for the consoles.

There's nothing stopping from games from being able to split screen on PC, and some games do. It's far from the norm though

Well I know some old PC games could do a split screen but sharing a keyboard isn't as easy as it was when you where a kid lol.

Whoops sorry for the confusion. I'm not much of a PC user for gaming as I use Ubuntu Linux since Windows svcks. Once all these millions of Linux embedded devices devour Microsoft and Apple alive and everyone starts developing games for Linux with OpenGL and Bullet physics I will buy the sickest multi core processed Tesla GPU Linux based OS driven desktop. In the meantime Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 are pretty nice. I really don't care if the graphics are far less on split screen it is about fun with your friends and family.

That's true, but gamepads/joysticks can be used as additional controls, no one said you have to huddle around the keyboard. Blur (which came out last month) is the most recent game that comes to mind that has split screen support on PC, I'm sure its more commonplace on things like racing games and other games where you might be inclined to use a gamepad/joystiq/wheel.

This is funny, because you sit there and bash windows for being crap, then talk about how OpenGL and friends is gonna come save the day, in the meantime you decide on MS's closed console system being a good call, and that uses DirectX API almost exclusively, a direct competitor of OpenGL/etc. The more DirectX gets supported obviously, the more it is here to stay.

Way to stick it to the man, (MS) by making sure directX has more support than OpenGL (of which your PC supports both.)

I'm all for open formats and whatnot, and thats why I game on PC, not the walled garden.

There is a big dilemma of whether or not consoles have enough juice to squeeze out split screen. I dont think it will happen, but it will be a pleasant surprise if it does. =)
