Hard drive help please!!

Post » Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:21 pm

Alright, I'm kinda pissed. I remember for the past month or two that every now and then I got a random BSOD when i turned the computer off (i would only see the error and know of it once i turned my PC back on). It's only today where my hard drive has been detected to be failing. And when that happens, it all goes downhill. I'm in the process of backing up right now.

Note to self: Never ever buy a samsung hard drive ever again...ever.....

Now see, I'm pretty sure most of you think I'm an idiot for getting a Samsung hard drive. Look people, I'm not an expert with harddrives or motherboards lol. Motherboards aren't much of an issue as long as they are compatible with what you got and they work. Hard drives tho....yeah.... I've had my drive for about 2 years and now it's screwing up...and I'm babbling mindlessly on.

Okay, let me get to the point of this thread:

What is the best hard drive that is 1TB or higher? My budget is 100 bucks and/or below. So far I'm thinking about this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148413&cm_re=2_TB_hard_drive-_-22-148-413-_-Product

But like i said, I have a lack of knowledge with hard drives. So plz, help pplz....im bout to get this sixy beast: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121430&cm_re=6970-_-14-121-430-_-Product and I want to be able to actually USE it with my delicious 4 GB of installed RAM :/

I didn't get a 750 watt power supply and/or an AMD Phenom X4 processor for nothing ya kno ;) Tyvm guys, I appreciate those whole help.

I've had good luck with Seagate Barracudas, they are fast, they are reliable, and they have a cool name. (what else could you want?)

WD Caviar Black/Blue are pretty good, as well as the Samsung SpinPoint F3.

But there's nothing wrong with Samsung's, believe it or not, Samsung's are some of the most reliable drives. I've got a Samsung Spinpoint F3, and they're really reliable

I've just upgraded from a standard Western Digital HDD to a Seagate Hybrid SSD/HDD and is so much faster than a standard hard drive for a budget price. Only down side is that the biggest drive is 500Gb.

Here's a link to the UK ebuyer page:

I've had a Maxtor and a Seagate hard drive die on me, and my friend has had 2 Western Digital hard drives that died. So far I've had a Samsung hard drive working perfectly for 4 years in my PC without an ounce of trouble from it at all. Samsungs are generally very reliable, I did my research before I bought it.

Every hard drive brand has a certain failure rate, Samsung is one of the better ones, actually. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.
