Next Gen 2012 - Consoles will feature 6 Core+

Post » Thu Oct 29, 2009 3:35 am

Consoles will feature 6-core or more processors onwards 2012, meaning they will have just caught up to the power of gaming PCs, but as technology still evolves, one generation of consoles aren't enough to keep up - 6 years can mean A LOT in terms of processor technology.

It's BS. game's are not even optimized for 4 cores yet. I would guess next gens will do about the equivalent of an i5-2500 or 2400. Great performance and it's cheap.

^ I have but I don't really count Arma as "optimized for 4 cores" since it makes use of 4 cores but not in an efficient or technically advanced way. It would look half-decent and have better physics/post processing if it was well optimized.

I call ****.

All 3 consoles announced are on a 10 year program with their current platforms. So look more to 2015.

besides, few programs thread for 2 cores let alone 4 or 6. (AMD has a 6 core presently).

I wonder if they will throttle the performance of the Processors by making them In-Order execution again. Yes, In-Order can be very cost effective, but it takes a hell of a lot more dedication to get the software to work properly on it.

I just bought quad this past Aug 2010. Not only will there be 6+ core but also there are the additions of 2 video cards. When I did research back in August Q4 Intel was finishing up with the 6 Core and if you have the x58 architecture, I think that is right, you can get them also. 8 should be next...geesh. You look it up. There are a few motherboards out there capable of supposedly handling 4 and 5 video cards, with a whopping 850 volts or more.

Oh and to mention, with the dual cards for those of you who don't have them, there is a little effect that happens in the older games called screen shadow. It is when the screen's gamma and brightness sort of blink and go dark as if the sun was coming out behind dark clouds. Goes super bright and sharp, then grey sort of then back again. Happens pretty heavy for me in Resident Evil 5.

Good topic.

Good luck because my computer has hyperthreading meaning I have 4 physical cores but utilizes it as 8 lol. Already faster than next gen consoles :P
