More patches coming for game?

Post » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:30 am

They made a couple of patches near launch and now there hasn't been one for ages so i'm wondering did they just give up and no more patches are coming? I mean the cloud save feature one of the features still advertised for it is disabled yet it is still being sold to people with that feature listed.

Do DLC's patch the main games bugs or only add new items and features? Thinking that might be why no patches have come but it seems bad to have to pay for bug fixes for the main game if its true.

The game seems in pretty good condition now - bar some balancing issues and niggly gripes - especially after the last big patch, so I'm not sure if they'd go to the effort. I've put over 300 hrs in to this game, and overall it seems pretty tight now - considering the complexities of it.

Mind you I can say that easily because I remember the state it was in on release, and to be honest, anything is better than what it was.

There's at least one more patch in the works confirmed, hopefully (though it's rather unrealistic) it will fix most of the issue so we won't need others (for the main game at least).
What Josh Sawer confirmed is that it includes bug fixes (he recently confirmed http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3376713&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=70#post389192614) and weapon tuning (on the Obsidian boards he confirmed that explosives will be tackled in this patch and warned about enemies using them). As for the DLCs, the only patches they've brought so far are for compatibility reasons. Doubt anything will change on that front.

It would be nice (and polite) if they could let us know if and roughly when this is coming. I'd like to give the game another run through, but I' reluctant to start a new campaign if a patch is in the pipeline. I've sunk a lot of time in the game, with 5 run through, and 300 hrs of play, and this will probably on my last run through, so I'd like to give it one last blast with a new patch installed so I can finally put this great game to bed.

Not sure if they read these posts anymore, but if they could give us an idea - at least an absolute confirmation that a patch is coming then that would be great.

How about it guys?

Good to hear. :tops: (Though I'm not having problems with the game).

Hopefully (since it looks like its not being pressured for a quick release), they might include fixes for the minor things as well, and strive for an all encompassing final patch.

haha, you aint gettin another patch mate.
Its been nearly two months since last patch or update. This game has been out for over six months, if they haven;t fixed anythign by now, they will never fix anything.

I don't know about that. It may not be instant money but a company that consistently supports their own game and the gaming community by fixing what isn't working correctly will get my $$$$....and those that don't, won't. I'd say it's an investment they can't afford to skip. Word of mouth can kill forward momentum for a company.

That being said, I think there is one coming and it should have a fix for Broken Boone. :)

I doubt there will be any more patches unless there is DLC to come and then the only patches
you will get is a fix for the things the DLC will break or is for some small pointless thing
that fixes some thing you did not care about like they have done in the past with FO3.

I was thinking about the quality of games in general and games that you can just come back to
and just reinstall and play with out having to reinstall a whole bunch of fixes and patches
and in this games case, (more than any other!), a load of mods too, just to make it worth
playing and this is not one. The ONLY game I can think of that you can do that with is L4D1/2.
Thats all im going to say on here about it because the rest would just be me b******g except
to say I was disappointed in the quality of the game, (not the story or content!), because
I was really looking forward to buying this game and I feel they LET US ALL down.

If their is no more patches that would mean everyone who bought game should be able to get a refund due to false advertising. The cloud saves are disabled and were a major hyped up feature still being advertised to gain sales.

Well Valve should get on fixing their site then to take away the steam cloud entry for the game. I'd think its their fault the cloud is messing things up rather than Obsidion's.

Personally, the ability to have Steam keep my saves saved on their servers isn't going to make or break a game's sale.

I had hoped the coming patch would be finished by now - it's been a few weeks? - but apparently not...or it is, but for some reason not being released yet. But it's ok...I haven't played the game for a while now, except to grab video footage now and then. And baseball is here.

But it'd still be nice to have that shiny new patch with the new tweaks & hopefully some more bug fixes, because I'm sure I'll return to the game several times before it gets tossed into the 'likely won't play it again for at least 5-6 years' pile.

i dont think steam is breaking anything the most i see it used for is for play without disc and achievments

I rather wait a bit longer and get a better patch in the end...

Good luck with that! As soon as you install L4D or L4D2 Steam will download a ton of patches (which don't really fix all the problems that game has, but that is a different story).

You want to try and find a game that was "working at release" you might have to go back to "pre-internet" days when developers were actually concerned with releasing working games; rather than much of the shovelware we see today released with the attitude of "get it on the shelves, we'll patch it later".

People say that a lot and it's true in theory, but sometimes the patch is actually finished, the developers hand it over, but the publisher (?) doesn't release it for some unfathomable reason. Or something.
I'm absolutely not saying that's the case here, because I don't know, but I've known it to happen before w/other games and when it does, the extended wait has nothing to do with making a patch 'better.' :verymad:
