What's the Best Processor to Run Crysis to Crysis 2

Post » Tue Nov 10, 2009 11:22 am

Of all of today's processors available to play HD games, What do any of you think best suits the high end needs of Crysis to Crysis 2?

I'm running with a (AM 2/AM3) AMD Athlon ii X4 630, 2.80 ghz? What do you guys think about this major hardware change!!

Maybe one of Sun's 96 core CPU's?

Starting to get old though... released in the late 90's or what was it lol?

The best processor? Probably the Intel i7 980x Gulftown.

(a serious answer)
You need a graphics card, not a processor...

i7 980x is so far the best desktop processor there is... 6 Cores! Maximum Ownage!

Graphics card- 5870 ATI

I think Intel showcased an 80-core in 2007.

Oh yeah here it is:

http://news.cnet.com/Intel-shows-off-80-core-processor/2100-1006_3-6158181.html

A fact is, Intel and AMD already know how to make this crazy future tech, they are just intentionally holding it back so they can keep earning more money by releasing tiny bits of it and calling it stuff like Core i7 920 and Core i7 980x EXTREME ULTRA MEGA MAX lol :P[/quote]Well it was covered in Star Trek Voyager, some hippie dude called swift or somethin, found a time machine, went forward to 29th century, brought back a bunch of tech stuff, and released it a bit at a time, to keep the $$ coming in, now the processor he brought back woulda been sweeeet! lmao, seriously, My and x4 620 does very well but i too could use a new card also, :D

Is this about futuristic server-grade CPUs or domestic server-grade CPUs? If the latter applies I vote for the Core i7 980X.

Otherwise, I suggest 100 atoms stuck together, with a central Nehalem-EX 12 core. That way every korean gets his own CPU to run AI with

You have an AMD motherboard? Get that 6-core Thuban then, i can't remember the exact model numbers...

If you are willing to switch motherboards, the i5k and i7k chips are really good for overclocking. The i5k chip can be overclocked to 4.8GHz. :P

ahem AMD had unlocked CPUs first and broke world records.
the 6 cores are called 1055T and 1090T (black edition)
6 cores still arent nessesary for games. yet
they are bareley used and having a quad core is fine!
but we dont know, there arent any official system reqs yet!
btw u should unlock the L3 cache on that athlon, if you feel like voinding ur warrenty, lol i unlocked 4 cores on my X2 550BE. now its a quad!!! lolz

If the 1090T notices they only 3 or less cores are being utilized, it automatically underclocks the 4,5, and 6 cores, and overclocks the first three, enhancjng efficiency. It's also very future proof and pretty cheap. :)

And just because AMD unlocked cores first, doesn't mean that makes them the best for unlocked chips. I would say an i5k hitting 4.8GHz EASILY is a hefty improvement, and the i7k hit 4.4GHz, this blows AMD overclocks out of the water. You can only overclock the 1090T to 4.1GHz before you get stability issues. :)

I still drool over the thought of an i7 980X. With something that powerful you don't even need overclocks. You will need a very large wallet, though.

I think any of the Core 2 Quad, i3/i5/i7, and Phenom X4/X6 CPUs should do fine as long as you have good graphics card. I'm getting a PC with AMD PII X4 955 BE, and HD 5850 graphics. I'm going to get another 5850 and go crossfire later, probly by the time Crysis 2 is released, and OC them to 5870 clocks, then it'll be pure pwnage from there:)
