Am I stupid or am I roleplaying it?

Can I be dumb in Fallout NV? In the original FO1 and 2 you could simultaneously cripple your character and open new conversations by setting your intelligence to 3 or lower. This left many missions unavailable and at times you would be attacked for having been born. In Fallout 3 low intelligence served only to handicap your character by limiting skill points, but even a low intelligence avatar could throw a 100% convincing argument in some situations.

I'm hoping that this expert mode has returned in Obsidian's Fallout NV. I think It would be great fun if other actors felt they had call their friends over to watch as they 'explain' things to me, or talk down to me and say things that they think would go over my head. I want to feel the torment of knowing that I am an insipid, moronic boob. Now you're going to tell me to look in the mirror, how clever. So is there dumb and incompetent in NV?

In a vague sense, it HAS, but it isnt to the same extent Fallout 1 and 2 did it. But in some places you'll have alot of it. But from what I've seen, majority of the dummy dialogue choices are responded to with the same NPC responses had you an intelligence of 4+.

I played a 1 IN char through endgame. It seems to me that the implementation of the dialog choices for low intelligence was not universally managed well. Some areas/quests seem like it's implemented pretty well, while many others just simply ignore it. My gut reaction is that it was *suggested* to the writers to implement dialog options for a low intelligence character, but it was not required. It's either that, or someone responsible for it's implementation needs to be sat down and given a *performance evaluation*.

Gunny out.

I would say your first assessment is the accurate one. I imagine there was more then one writing team.

Thanks for the detailed responses. I've decided that I will gladly buy the game and cobble a self player with 2 intelligence to reflect my real life IQ of 55.
But I hope that the main quest will acknowledge my handicap and not treat me like I can do anything just because I have a 'good heart.'

I believe, but am not certain, that you must have a 1 INT to unlock the specific speach responses for low intelligence. Maybe someone can help verify?
