Massive internet bill related to gaming

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2009 3:37 pm

hey i was wondering if i could get some tips on internet plans that have limited gb, because i just got a 500 dollar internet bill. I understand that downloading demo's or videos takes up a lot of bandwidth and i havent been doing that, but i want to figure out how much MB's are used a hour for playing a online game like crysis 2 not hosting. Bell help line told me that this plan isn't the best for online gaming but they said they could probably work out something about my bill since i didn't fully understand. i have a 5Gb plan just to let you know

Ouch. I don't know.Check what other providers in your area offer (if there are any). Mine stays the same every month-unlimited.

Every area (especially in the US), has multiple but different service providers. Biased, but honestly, the best being Comcast (Xfinity) if you're in the US and thats near you. 5GB is THE WORST plan you could ever have if you play games, I can use that in week by just randomly browsing the web and casually playing a few games nonetheless downloading anything. Most US plans are 250gb to unlimited data cap but even 250gb is generous for yourself or a family with you being the only gamer.

Best thing to do is check your local area and see what providers there are, and see what their plans are. Its worth the 175 dollar fee if you can get a better gig plan, you dont wanna repeat that 500 bill again.

I thought they defeated the internet metering plan in Canada... what a shame.

Lol, that really svcks, you need to cancel that ASAP man, just yesterday I downloaded 19.3gb on utorrent, that doesn't even count anything else I used the internet for. Search for one that doesn't have a limit, I've seen places where they do it like this: When you reach the limit, they lower your internet speed to the lowest they offer, like from 10mb to 600kb, until the end of the month.

What are you paying per month for that 5GB plan? I didn't even know that limited connections(Land Line) were allowed in Canada.

I use Shaw and even if you go over their limit, they can't charge you a surplus premium.

5GB sounds more like a mobile limit, are you tethering?

Just saw this with a quick search: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/metered-internet-billing-gets-an-icy-reception-in-canada/

Are you using a small ISP? I would definitely steer clear of those in the future. Also, in your contract that you originally signed, does it show a limit on bandwidth and a per KB/GB rate after the initial limit has been exceeded? If it doesn't and they changed their plans and rates on you mid-contract, you should be able to get out of having to pay any cancellation fees because they breached the contract terms first. Just a thought anyway.
