So, my general distaste of EA aside, much of my impatience at this point is pointed at Crytek. Their general lack of information, little to no outreach to the community I feel. Oh, I know those two yahoos that work for Crytek occasionally forum post and give, at best, vague enough PR polished answers. Even then, the answers are not to the questions of why this game is still an inconsistent mess.
It pretty much plays like a slot machine, and has for nine days now. I can get into a firefight with an opponent and it devolves immediately into a 'Halo 2' era slot machine of absolute ****.
I spot them first, get the drop on them.
Cherry.
Armor mode is activated, I fire first, clearly getting hit markers from each round, all upper torso and head shots.
Cherry.
The opponent is able to turn around a complete 180 degrees, take aim, fire a light spritzing, maybe quarter of a mag at most, with no armor mode active at any point during the damage taken, and its me that is dead.
Bar.
There you have it. Doesn't matter if I've a four bar connection or one red bar, this is generally what happens. In my experience, I've found that being host is far more of a punishment then anything else. Seems like the poor sap with a red bar, more often than not, ends up being the top player of the match.
And I won't even bother going into the Special Olympics calibre race that is two people trying to melee each other, or even the melee attack in general.
Unlike Homefront, which had an equally awful first week, and was a pretty mediocre game at best anyhow, I actually enjoy Crysis 2's multiplayer on the occasional match, perhaps one out of ten, where it seems to firing on all cylinders. The game has some great ideas and executions going for it, but from the beginning, up to the present, the good things are being completely devoured by the awfulness handling of this game, and the (so far) abandonment of its community.
Crytek wants to prioritize the PC version, that's fine. Just don't leave us console players out in the dark. Because if this is future we should expect from you Crytek, then do yourselves a favor. Being this is your first title released on consoles, go ahead and make it your last one at that. Or just make Crysis 3 a single player game only. At least the goddamn Ceph actually die when you shoot them in the campaign.
I'd love to be proven wrong about all of this. I'd love to say very soon that the multiplayer is so good that I can put Call of Duty away for a spell. Until then though, and with what I've been presented with, I can't be so sure that will ever happen.
And that's that.
