Mojave Wasteland Environment

@Weightaholic: Believable in the Fallout Universe's standards.

As long as it's set on Earth, it's not merely implausible, but unbelievable. Way too large.

All about the air man, all about the air.

And here's why... it's not primarily about the air. It's also about the gravity. The way creatures with exoskeletons grow larger is by shedding their exoskeletons, and forming a new chitinous exoskeleton which hardens. Until it hardens though, there is no support for the internal structures/organs, thus leading to the collapse of the body of the insect if they get too large. Basically, they collapse under their own weight.

Ever eaten soft-shell crabs? Why are they soft-shelled?

At least people have actually learned something factual in this thread now....

Children, behave or I'll call papa bear in here. :stare:

I arrived without a call - I can sniff out trouble wherever it is. ;)

Gonna close this and have a bit of a sort out.

OK, I have deleted 34 posts and edited a few, now you can reward my dedication to keeping this topic alive, and say thanks for not being grumpy with/warning/banning anyone, or even worse, by getting back to the original topic. Thank you gentlemen. :)

I really like New Vegas' environment. The background sounds add a lot. eg, walking past a metal tower of some sort invokes an old-steel-girder-under-tension sound. I like the various wind, and musical subtleties that build on the visuals of desert sand storms, and such. I think the lighting is great. I don't think night time is too dark. If anyone has been outside at night where the sky was clear and the moon was full, it is actually remarkably light. The first time I noticed that the moon cast my shadow onto the road I was walking along was very revolutionary.

A few negative things about the environment. Definitely the invisible barriers. Nothing more annoying that climbing a hill with difficulty to reach another section (which you know you can get to, it's not off the map) but can't take that final step or hop. What's the point of doing that to get a better vantage point over some Deathclaws (or just trying to avoid them) if the game won't let you.

There is one plant, which doesn't give you any ingredients, but is just decoration. From a distance it looks like a person. They tend to be about 5 foot tall, and have a head-like top to them. These are annoying.

And not to talk about creatures too much, but Deathclaws annoy me, mainly because they prevent me from wandering cool parts of the map. They basically just create parts of the map my character can't go. I supposed I could make a special effort to kill them all, and then wander around until they respawn, but they are rather hard to kill.

So why defend something so illogical as Fallout 3?

Why even compare? (I'm looking at you, West.)

'cause they just molted.

But you're 100% correct about the cazadores; the giant ants are also impossible, unless they have mutated skeletons.

i'm not comparing the games here, i like new vegas, but the no random encounters on the map and just general lack of movement for the factions is keeping me from playing it anymore, i could live with a lot of the faults but i already played the game for a couple months, i know the entire map like the back of my hand already and i know whats gonna be around every corner pretty much, so unless they fix that i won't be playing it.

Well since your obviously bored, why not you know...

Go to a different forum? One that doesn't like New Vegas, since you usually talk about how this game in nothing like Fallout 3 in anyway whatsoever, but for some strange reason you only come here to post.

Hm, that's such a mystery!

since fallout is one of bethesdas franchises i like talking about it, bethesda is really good at making games their fans like, so i'm into fallout, even though new vegas isn't my fav fallout game, i still think its a decent game, and i might play it again if some things get fixed, since a lot of dlcs are suppose to come out i'm waiting to see what happens.

even thought i critisize new vegas in some areas, i don't think they are bad game developers, what they set out to do i think they do very well, they are more story oriented, they're pretty decent with some other stuff also, like making your decisions count more, skill/perk system, they did a good job on the skill perk, and they have lots of good perks...i just hope they make a more balanced game if they make another fallout game, more explorable buildings and not a desert area, and definately random encounters, i won't buy one more fallout if there are no random encounters, no matter who makes it.

Or you attract the attention of the Mods. Because we're not nice people. Well, actually, some of us are, but not me.

Closed because this has already required a clean up.
