Totally Amazed! How did Crytek manage it? Crysis 2 wow!

How did Crytek manage to bring such a demanding game to the PS3?

I sat in the cemetary before behind the church just staring at amazement for 5 mins at how fantastic everything looked. The trees swaying, the grass moving, the way the sunlight refracted through the tree's and the shadows play about. Then when I shot the tombstones big chunks of stone flew off... the textures are sharp, much like Killzone 3, and I was totally amazed that the developers managed to get it to run smoothly on the PS3 at all, I spun around shooting with no slowdowns! I am playing through HDMI on a 52 inch Sony Bravia Full-HD Screen and I can say that without doubt this is the most impressive game I have seen play through my PS3! This says alot considering how great Uncharted 2 and Killzone 3 looks but its true, it is almost like playing Crysis on my Gaming Desktop and I am not sure how they managed to do it?

IGN stated that it is the best looking console game ever released to date, I tend to agree, and it is so much fun :)

Amazing work Crytek.... never thaught it was possible but somehow you guys pulled it off.

So cruel, Jaro! I'm sitting in between. The visuals are impressive, especially in comparison to CoD, BFBC2 and (should I even bother?) MoH. Less so in comparison to KZ3 but it would be asking a little too much for Crysis 2 to blow this PS3-exclusive game out of the water, visually speaking. One does get the sense of Crysis 2 being built for pc, even though it was designed as a cross-platform thing. There are frame rate drops and graphic pop ins which I doubt are there in copies running on a good pc. No doubt there's less difference between the pc and (MS) xbox builds but, you know, we all made our sacrifices when choosing Sony over Microsoft: a choice which I, for one, don't at all regret. Man, I remember having a Commodore 64 as a kid and feeling true envy when seeing Amiga versions of some of my most beloved games. All this next gen comparison stuff is petty in comparison. Anyway, Crysis 2 is undoubtedly an impressive game on any platform.

I had an Atari 2600 system ;)

This review is pretty accurate:

"PC version is a little sharper, but Console versions arn't far behind"

about sums it up, and I am still amazed it runs on either console its pretty damn intensive!

good dayYou do know that you have to force 1080p on the PS3, right? If you have both the 720p and 1080p boxes checked in the PS3's XMB menu it will default to 720p even if the game is capable of 1080p.

Yeah I just have mine on Auto you can tell what resolution it uses because when entering the game it changes the display to 1080p (it shows up in the top left corner of my screen what resolution I am using). I think some of these silly people are running Crysis 2 in 720p and come here to complain OR they have a TV that is incapable of displaying 1080p but STILL feel the need to blame that on the game like somehow it is Cryteks fault. In 1080p it looks fantastic.

Bollox - true 1080p games always display in 1080, u can force upscaling at perfomance cost and in this case with CRYSIS 2 its a sub HD game and gets forced into 1080 unless u force it into 720 - sheesh and how did they manage it .... not too well - my older underpowered pc runs its

Nah they are about the same as the SP as far as I can tell, same water, same effects HDR etc, depends on the map though some look better than others!

After reading this I just changed my PS3 to "force 1080p." Previously it just felt like the game was a little murky - I kept wondering if it was running in 720p. It seems like the game should auto-detect that and display at the maximum possible resolution though. Hopefully that's something that will be patched, since it seems like every other game does this.
