Post » Sun Jan 03, 2010 8:12 am

V.A.T.S. can be a VERY fun feature in the world of fallout (especially when you send the enemy flying) im pretty sure everyone has at least ONE favorite moment while in V.A.T.S. so whats yours?

Oh yknow this one time, where it went slow-mo and the bullets could be seen and then the enemy splattered and it was awesome! xEverytimeVATShaseverbeenused.... <_<

VATS is very very very repetitive, the fun and cool factor of it wears off after the 5th time I used it in FO3.
In NV I use it merely to cheat a shot when killing the Mojave Chapter, other than that I never use it.

So anyway, favorite moment, it was in The Pitt, when I used a sniper on the sniper on the bridge, watching the bullet in slow-mo as it splattered his head and then fell down on the bridge was kinda "cool" I guess.
VATS+pointblank+shotgun+feralghoul is also very satisfying.

I don't use it. What with the all the mods I have that ramp up the games overall difficulty (higher damage from enemies, less health, health loss over time from wounds) VATS is a death sentence against everything but the most weak enemies.

Tried killing a Jackal Gang Member at Nipton Road Pit Stop by sneaking up and igniting the blue car. Shot the car but got spotted. Panicked and shot in him the knee using V.A.T.S.

He crumples and the car lands on him, so it sort of worked.

Riot Shotgun, Alpha Male Deathclaw, 180 Degree Spin instant kill headshot. What made it better was taking the baby out at his feet aswell at the same time.

The Magnum round went through the Baby Deathclaws head and still proceeded to go through the Alpha's head. Double Head-Shot explosion - 1 round fired. Pure Bliss.

Using a grenade on the Freeside thug who motions you to follow him down an alley. He got just enough air with the blast that he landed in the dumpster. Saved me the work putting them in there after the fight.

When my characters fingers got really long and creepy, it actually kinda scared me because I was so suprised xD

Is that a well known bug?

I suppose i am missing something here but i never really found VATS to be more than a gimmick which i never use and found to be more trouble that it is worth. It is probably more due to my playstyle as i usually take out enemies at ranges beyond the reach of VATS. Nothing like a silenced .308 to the brain of a target so far away that the cross hair obscures the target from view. I shoot some stuff so far away that if i do not lead it by a cross hair thickness or two i miss, the hits and misses could be stat decided but as an avid shooter even with some top notch optics a walking target has to be led a bit depending on range of course, but this little realistic feature is one of the "attention to detail" things about FO that i really like. But in general i found VATS to be no more or less reliable than just shooting as i would in a typical FPS, so instead of a VATS key i have a hot key set to pull me into FPS mode quick and i will scroll back out to TPS view for normal interactions. If i can shoot it before VATS is useable that is how i preffer to do it, but even if i can not i just go into FPS view and ignore VATS entirely.

I have two. I was using a fire axe on a Nightkin. 1st hit was with mauler. I sent him flying when he landed facedown on a rock. The second hit was with a normal fire axe strike which severed his head clean. The blood flow on the adjacent rock in combo with the head rolling off to the left was pretty f'n cool.
The second was inside the Repcon Launch site. There was a ghoul I was stalking on the floor above me. I lost track of him. Then I heard the "whoop" noise and he was right behind me! I had the Caravan Shotgun handy so I put one in his chest and one in the head at near point blank range while crouching. The 1st blast put his health near death, the second exploded his head while launching him clear into the air. He landed about 10' away all in gloriously gory slow mo.
