Why 'The Strip' in NV always ticks me off

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2010 7:25 pm

These giant casinos. Beautiful set pieces. Wasted :(

There is nothing to do at them. Zero quests overall. You'd think they would be teeming centers of the game given they are the centerpiece. Instead they are ghost towns and feel vacant, empty and artificial.

No where in New Vegas am I more reminded it is a game and immersion broken then when I'm on the Strip.

Freeside is chock full of quests that flesh out the area and its inhabitants... in fact, it feels more like the Strip to me .... quests to be muscle, to help a crime family, the tension between NCR and the Kings....

The Strip??? Empty. Desolate.

It makes me angry and sad every time I play the game. It's like the devs figured: here's eye candy, they won't notice that it is all light and shadows with no substance.

Sigh.

I realize there are a few quests - but it seems you should be talking to be people left and right who have interesting stories (at the very least) and tons of real side quests and alternative quests (the ones that register in your notes but not your quest list).... Look at McCarran or Freeside - they are fleshed out and full of amazing quests that send you far afield on bounties, a vault etc. Not so the Strip. It just seems the center of the entire game would be the most fleshed out but its the opposite - I often find myself avoiding it until I'm ready to end my game.

I have to admit the strip felt really striped down (i love puns) it had less action than a nuns [censored] it was very barren and it's just to small and yeah freeside was superior (more qusts more fleshed out and it felt like it could be a real place were as the strip felt like some random bling).

i was mostly annoyed that it had to be in seperate cells to run on the consoles. i wish microsoft and sony would release new ones already. developers are starting to complaing that consoles are holding them back big time.

The lack of quests on the strip is sad, but I did enjoy 'Beyond the Beef' (loved seeing the WG Society for what they really were) and 'How Little we Know' (similar reasons, I also liked bringing down the people trying to destroy my home, as I live in the Lucky 38)

Honestly, my complaint about The Strip was them altering The Strips walls. the Beta version at E3 were WALLS, not makeshift barriers. I dislike the current walls.

The seperate loading cells and lack of people there annoyed the crap out of me, but thats just the game engine's limitations. Other than that I thought it was pretty cool though, still like outer vegas better though.

Meh. Wasn't expecting an "Imperial City" of the Fallout universe or anything, which is what I expect most people wanted. Gotta remember that it costs 2,000 caps and just about everyone in Freeside/the surrounding wastes are broke as hell.

If you want to add another quest based in the strip check out my mod, The Collector. (Link in my sig; shameless plug) Not much of it actually takes place in the strip, but the quest giver is there and you have to return to him a few times, so you do pass through often. :)

In terms of people it's kind of odd that there wouldn't be more on the strip. Obsidian really pushed the envelope in terms of enemies and npcs on screen, with mostly minimal lag too, so it is a bit confusing as to why there aren't more npcs on the strip (other than the above mentioned of the possibility that there aren't a lot of people with the caps to get on the strip).

In terms of quests there are few that originate there and also there are a couple of unmarked quests too. The strip plays about a big a role as it's actual size. Everything around it is huge and has a lot of involvement but the strip itself is small and insignificant really.

I agree. It was highly disappointing, for me. Before I got the game and before I got to the Strip, if you asked me what I was most excited for in New Vegas, my answer would have been, without hesitation,"the Strip". About 10 hours into the game, I built up the confidence to finally get to the Strip. I can barely describe how excited I was when I was nearing Vegas and initially entered the Strip. It wasn't long before I noticed it was tiny and really didn't have much to do... much to my disappointment. :sadvaultboy:

I feel the same way about Talon Company in NV, so much wasted potential, but Obsidian had no real choice, they had an entire game to finish with less time and less people than BGS had for FO3...

I agree the Strip could have been fleshed out a bit more. I would have expected more bodies at least even if they were just gambleing at the tables or sitting at the bar. I do understand that as a PC gamer with a top of the line rig what my machine can handle as opposed to what a console can is night and day, but the PC gaming experience should not be limited by the antiquated outdated hardware of consoles. How much extra money and time would it have taken to have a few more bodies around doing stuff to breath some more life in to what is probably THE most important area in all of FONV. Although the NCR hotties giving the robot sentry the cold shoulder as they "play in the fountain" was entertaining, nice touch, excellent work there guys, (i am giggling a bit as i type this remembering it).

Pretty much this.

There was Beyond the Beef.

Bye Bye Love
Over the Tower Moon.(or something?)
The Omerta quest that is in connected with Mainquest.
Finger of Suspicion.
Ring-A-Ding!
The Talent Searching quest.
Small side quest to persuade the Brahmin rancher to leave.
Some others...I think?

--------Vault 21 dissapointed me.......I thought we'd get to do some interesting quests there that involved some gambling but no...
