I'm certain I'm not the only one who has posted this.... I'm as certain as I am that Bethesda DOES NOT CARE as the laugh their way to the bank.

The box CLEARLY SAYS "requires internet connection and free steam account to activate"
It DOES NOT SAY "Steam will try to download the game rather than install from this disk, so enjoy hunting down a way to fix this problem, maybe you should have just bought it online."
It DOES NOT SAY "Oh, by the way, if you are on dial-up plan on giving up your phone line for weeks while we force you to download updates"
It DOES NOT SAY, EVEN IN THE FINE PRINT "Since you live in a rural area where you can't get reasonable high speed you will NEVER EVER get to play this game, thanks for the 60 bucks, svckER"

OK BETHESDA GEEKS..... CATCH SOME OLD SCHOOL. HERE'S HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO WORK.

1) You buy the game
2) you put it in your cd drive
3) it installs
4) you play the game.

So you might say "What if someone tries to steal the game?" I say "they will... they're geeks, like you. I'm a gamer, where's my game?"
So you might say "What about patches?, What about updates?" I say " When a game needs as many patches as this one does, you should hang your head in SHAME. You did a lousy job. Appologize. PUBLICLY. OFFER a patch. DO NOT FORCE IT DOWN MY THROAT. DO NOT TELL ME I CAN'T PLAY WITHOUT IT.

STEAM...... IS CRAP. REMOVE IT FROM THE GAME. NEVER USE IT AGAIN. IF I WANTED TO GO ONLINE EVERY TIME I PLAYED A GAME, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE GAME ONLINE.
I BOUGHT A CD. AT WALMART. WE HAVE THOSE IN THE COUNTRY. WE DONT HAVE HIGH SPEED.

I PLAYED FALLOUT
I PLAYED FALLOUT 2
I PLAYED FALLOUT TACTICS
I PLAYED FALLOUT 3

I WILL NEVER GET TO PLAY THIS GAME BECAUSE YOU SCREWED IT UP.
I'M OUT 60 BUCKS
FOR US NON-RICH NOT RIPPIN' PEOPLE OFF DAILY FOLK WHO LIVE OUT HERE IN THE STICKS AND WORK REGULAR JOBS, AFTER TAXES THAT'S ABOUT 2 DAYS PAY. 16+ HOURS.
KNOW HOW MANY HOURS I'VE PLAYED THIS GAME FOR MY 60 BUCKS? ZERO. THANKS.

Those are very legitimate complaints, and I sympathize with you, however caps locks isn't the way to go. If I buy a game on Steam, fine, but I don't feel I should have to use Steam if I bought it at the store. Mind you, I love Steam, however I know what it's like to live in rural areas.

I'd take it back to Wal Mart if I were you, as long as you didn't wait 30 days to install the game, or however long the refund date is.

Since you're ranting about Steam making you install updates, I'm going to assume you got through the actual download/installation and are at the point where you're having to download said updates.

Right click on Fallout: New Vegas in your library, go to Properties, click the Updates tab, and change the drop down bar from "Always keep this game up to date" to "Do not automatically update this game".

There's also a way to play the game in offline mode, but I don't know how. Someone else can tell you how to do that.

The patches make it so you can play the game without the annoying crash to desktops and other problems. Without those patchs you might be on here ranting about the CTD and other bugs. Steam updates games for me all time and it takes no time at all. I don't get why people are against it, unless they have internet problems.

But please don't make a thread here just to rant.
