Crysis 2 needs a local search option for multiplayer

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2010 10:25 pm

Crysis 2 could really use search preferences for the multiplayer like most games do. Search Options can be Local or Language specific and a fastest option (find games with no preferences). The frequent red bar connection causing mass lag throughout the multiplayer can make the multiplayer a lot less enjoyable and unbalanced. By integrating these search functions players will be able to connect to games with a decent connection and play in non/barely laggy games which makes the multiplayer a lot more enjoyable since players are not disadvantaged by their connection to the host.

It's already the case... 90% of players I encounter are French. No need for options.

It seems to be doing better over the past few days. That said I do still get Americans in my lobby. Which is a pain for me. And for those dudes. Having a local only search option could eliminate those annoying situations.

I don't have massive problems with lag. Usually 3 bars in games. Sometimes 2 but even then lag/hit detection seems reasonable. I've only had one game so far that was one bar and tricky, but still just about playable. Not like COD where sometimes game after game would be players "skipping" in and out across the screen.

I'm in the UK, don't know who I've been playing, but I see few red bars when playing.

One way to get some kind of idea is to take a look at your dog tags. The country flags, it shows the number of spesific kind of dog tags you've picked up. Many do ppl actually run with the country flag. It's not an accurate measurement by far but sort of gives you an idea.

edit:

Here's what you should always remember when staring at the bars. It's not a set standard as far as I know anyway. So your bars will vary from one game to another.

It seems to me Crysis 2 is pretty harsh with the bars. Could be due to the PC background. Personally I'd prefer an approximate ping number to the bar system. But I guess the bars are more understable to people who don't know anything about ping.

Interesting, what should pings be then for decent online gaming?

I am in the UK and am constantly put in games with just people in the US. Even though my internet is perfectly fine and gives my full green connections on any other game, i constantly have 1 bar, maybe 2 if im lucky in any crysis game.

I think it does a local search for the region you selected in the system settings of you xbox. When I set it to Netherlands it takes much longer than when I set it to UK. Thats because there are more players in the UK.

If you think it goes too slow, or if you are only matched with people from the other side of the world, maybe it will help to change your locale to a nearby country with more players. (like the UK for me)
