any creative and interesting places to safely store your gear other than the lucky 38?

The obvious is the hotel room in Novac. That is still my main "base". Once you unlock the BOS Bunker you can use that too.

There is also the Lucky 38 Suite and the NCR and Legion Safe rooms and the suite you get in the tops
