should i just finish them off?

Post » Thu Mar 04, 2010 4:16 pm

on 1 of my NCR toons i was questing with boone & soon came across ranger mylo (spelling?).......he asked us to kill the NCR hostages in nelson that have been crucified , i said ok but on r way to nelson boone said we should save them & not kill them , so i went along with it , but sadly we aggroed (srry used to play WOW) every guard there so we killed them & free the hostages......i then remember that only dead see & 2 guard r left in that building........so i thought if i should spare him 4 now so i can still loot skirmishs or just kill him :/

What's with "toon"?

Am I just getting too damn old? I've seen people calling characters "toons" a few times now and it rankles every time.

If you are pro-NCR , it's possible to save the hostages. Just kill all the Legion guys (but don't go into the buildings - there's a separate NCR quest to kill the Legion commander there and you won't be able to finish it if he's already dead).
Boone will approve if you mercy kill the hostages but he will approve more if you save them, which goes towards unlocking his personal quest.

If you save the hostages with boone as companion you will get a +2points towards his quest which you need a total of 5points. You can get the other points from many things like the quest Booted where you save a couple powder gang hostages from a legion camp. A couple more points if you kill Vulpus something, which is the guy you meet in Nipton or later in the Strip saying that the Caeser wants to speak with you and forgive any bad you're done in the past against the Legion. You get +2points for wiping out the cottonwood camp a quest from a sarg i don't recall his name just west of the searchlight camp. Remember must be done with Boone as companion. Ah you kill Caesar gives you a couple points as well. Anyway, good luck.

Toon is just shorthand for character. Mostly found in MMOs (yes, like wow) but fairly common in any game in which one player can have multiple, distinctly varied, characters.

Same thing with aggro. Which is actually a very relevant concept in this game. For instance, despite showing up a red/hostile, coyotes and bighorners have very small aggro ranges.

I wouldn't get too up in arms about it. Unless you find other Internet shorthand ("what u doin?") equally offensive. And in the case of "aggro," I would be hard pressed to find a more clear and succinct way of getting that point across.

Addendum to the above: I only seek to defend the terminology. As for the OPs dismantling of the English language as a whole ... I've got nothing.

Got no problem with aggro. That one at least makes sense.

I guess I'm missing how it is that "character" got shortened to "toon" when it would make more sense to go with, oh say: "char" which is the same amount of characters (hah) and is a hell of a lot more intuitive. Even "avatar" or "avi" or "av" would make more sense than "toon". Oh well, that's just me, maybe.
