I Don't Know What All Obsidian Did With the Latest Patch...

Post » Fri Apr 09, 2010 3:33 am

But damn were they right when they said the game was being optimized. New Vegas hasn't ever run this smooth for me before. And best of all, I'm not even noticing any stutter on my end.

The game used to run pretty poorly even without hi res textures installed, and now after the patch, it's smoother than butter. And this is even with those aforementioned hi res textures installed.

Bravo, Obsidian. You just made a great game even better. :fallout:

So, is this the same for the rest of you, or are your experiences with the new patch different?

There might be a slight increase in FPS in some places, but since it was always pretty "smooth/fast" for me, I don't notice much difference. Feels about the same.

Usually hear mostly about the negatives on the forums, so nice to hear it's running better for some people who needed it! *thumbs up*

I've noticed some of my loading screens on characters with 10k kb saves go down, wich is always nice. Game also hasn't frozen so far and it's running pretty damn smooth, so yeah I agree, they did a great job.

I've been playing for the past three days. I haven't free traveled. Boone and I are just roaming around finding new locations and killing Deathclaws with my missile launcher(it's fun), him with a knife sometimes(crazy nut). And then we got the patch last night. Everything was pretty smooth(still had some lagging) till I got to Freeside. And then my game started doing that weird thing where it moves very slowly. It's move, wait a second, move a little more, wait a second, and so on. I just went ahead and saved. I'm happy to get a new patch, so I'll just see how it goes tonight and hope for the best before I give my final verdict.

Someone mentioned high prices for stuff. I'm on my second game still and have over 66,000 caps, so I'm not too upset about this. It's really easy to get money in this game. And it's nice to be leveling up again. I think leveling up went too fast. Especially it you are someone who like to play one game a good long while. :)

I don't know if this falls under "optimization" or not, but that realllllly long delay between action and the in-game txt message notification is gone for me. Used to be if I started new chr., that delay would be gigantic until I'd played for several hours. Now it's gone from the get-go.

Re:high prices - seems like the regular 556, 10mm, and 308 ammo has gone up in price a bit. Not a big deal in the long run at all, but can be a bit more difficult to stock up in the very early game when you have nothing. ;)
