I'm trying to get Ranger Seqouia for my current character (a pistol specialist) and the only way I know of to get one is from Chief Hanlon. However, I'd rather not kill him or have him kil himself. My sneak skill is 70 and I used a stealth boy, but no matter how many times I try, he catches me. If anyone else has one, I'd rather not murder them either, especially if they're NCR.
So, any suggestions for getting one?

C4 + NCR ranger. Done right zero reputation lost.

I don't know of any legit way to get one that doesn't involve the death of a ranger. But if you want to avoid losing standing with the NCR, this is how I did it: find an unnamed veteran ranger at one of the camps scattered around the map, use a stealthboy, then plant a grenade in his inventory. If the ranger's buddies turn hostile, run away and wait for them to calm down. Then go and loot the body.

I've done this twice, and the only thing I lost was a bit of karma. And a grenade. You could also lure a ranger into a deadly encounter, but that would be difficult to arrange.

Reverse pickpocketing or PP'ing ammo and then weapons is pretty tricky. I've done if for the 'figaro, big boomer and la longue carabine' it's not impossible it just takes a while to get lucky. Just make a save when you're in position and keep trying. you'll get it eventually.

Get a companion to kill him, then. After you do a certain quest, you don't need him (if you do kill him, you can use a silenced weapon).

Your best bet may be killing him.

try this ok, puch him once just to annoy him then when he draws his gun shoot it out of his hand with VATS, save it before hand so if he dies you can reload it, when he loses his gun pick it up and run like hell till he turns back to normal, cuz you didnt kill him you wont lose respect, and make sure your companions are not with you or they will kill him

Yeah, this is really the only way I can do it without killing him. But, leave your companions away somewhere else. Mine continue shooting after I holster my weapon.

Pickpocket his ammo, leave the area, come back, pickpocket the weapon.

or if you finish the quest Flags of our Foul Ups in a certain way....you can aquire one with non violent means.

Yes he knows that but he wants a non violent way of getting on.

I say reverse pickpocketing would be the best solution.

Ok, I Reverse-pickpocketed the C4 onto a veteran and set it off. Worked without any reputation loss. Thanks for the help.

Easy. Find a Ranger patrol, find a Legion patrol or a pack of Deathclaws.

Lead one to the other, then sit back and take out the stragglers.

Me too! Macnamara looks kinda dumb now though with the MK2 combat armor... Still not as silly as the prosttute outside of gomorra dancing around in metal armor... lol
