Do you use power armor in Fallout: New Vegas?

Post » Tue Apr 20, 2010 6:54 am

I never use it anymore. It looked way cooler in FO1 and FO2 where it made you like a few feet taller.

If it was that cool I would use it.

So, actually, during my entire time playing NV I've only worn PA twice, once was when getting the training from the BOS to see how effective it was and once to see how remnants PA looked like in 3D.
Other than that I have no used PA at all.
Not just cause it unbalances it all.
Not just cause it's ugly and out of place.
But because I'm so sick of the damn things in Fallout.

Can't bring myself to wear PA yet again in a Fallout game.

Light Armor are almost on par with medium armors, so why use all that carry space when you are going to be really slow for only a marginal increase in protection? I'd rather have the ability to back up faster against melee.

Although the Hellfire Armor in FO3 with a Heavy weapon looks scary.

SM Reinforced + Toughness rank 2 + Sub-dermal implant = : )

EDIT: Besides not needing it, another reason i don't use PA is because most weapons look tiny when used with PA.

It depends on my character, but rarely. None of my small guns characters touch the stuff, too heavy and slow for them. My unarmed/explosives guy lived in his power armour though.

Yeah, my brush gun looks like a toy strapped across the back of some PA, anything less than a gauss rifle looks silly.

I used to wear PA all the time, but lately I've discovered the joy of using the "light touch" perk and reinforced Sierra Madre armor and I may never go back again.

While it may not chaff my loins like leather armor does (YOU try walking the damn desert in black leather without getting heat rash down there :stare:) but honestly, I'm sick of power armor at this point. Beyond collecting it and putting it in my suite, I never use it save maybe the final battle at Hoover.

Hey it can get pretty sticky in power armor so it's chaffs all rounds .But yeah i ho it out tbh.

Nope. Don't need it. I carry one suit around just as an insurance policy but I normally just let it sit unused...or sell it, since one decent condition suit buys me half a level's worth of ammo.

I love having ED-E, and then dressing Boone and myself in Remnants PA. We have a nice Enclave thing going on.

It needs two things: much higher DT in the neighborhood of 30 for T-45d and at least 25% DR for non-energy weapons and Deathclaws. The Remnant armor should get up around 50 DT and 75% DR. Make it worth working for.

I actually love power armors, they fit perfectly with my play style (tank/defense) and with any roleplaying backstory I make up at 3 in the morning

My current FNV character is a guns using skirmisher with absurd endurance and toughness, so no, she won't use PA. Next one will be a technocrat EW user though, so that one will gladly get some PA.

With the Sub Dermal Armor, Remnant's Power Armor, and Remnant's Helmet, I can get a whopping 40 DT, which I think is badass. Although it may be heavy, I can just use the Gannon Family Tesla Armor/Helmet, which brings it down to around 36 or so, but is classified as "Medium"

I haven't used power armor since one of my very early playthroughs of Fallout 3 back when that game was actually still new. The highest DT value armor I ran around in New Vegas was the reinforced leather armor. I usually run around in merc outfits or the bounty hunter duster. The huge bulkiness of power armor just doesn't do it to for me.

Whether or not I use PA depends on the character, although almost all of them have used the 'classic' T-51b you can buy from the BoS at some point.

I have modded armor to no longer allow 'bleed-through', which makes PA significantly more worthwhile, but even with the higher levels of DT I can reach it's not nearly enough compared to the 140 damage per hit I can take from a single Ballistic Fist user or average Deathclaw.

While DT is a step in the right direction towards making PA more like the 'walking tank' it's supposed to be, the lack of DR to go with the DT really sells it short IMO. I am undecided how much (if any) DR to mod in, since I'm already at a point where most weapons don't do much, but it would definitely help against the high-end stuff that does so much more damage than any amount of DT one can currently get that it's not funny. If I could add AC as well I would, but the system isn't set up for it.

Of course, high-end opponents should be dangerous, but it gets a little ridiculous when a wrist-shotgun can punch through composite plating like it's not even there.
