Patch 1.3 - Stat Changes - The (Ongoing) List

Post » Thu May 20, 2010 4:03 am

With all the bugs and glitches people are complaining of i would like to know what the patch fixed... apperently it didn't do alot of fixing because they are making a patch to fix that patch. That is good enough for me to know i'm not going update my game.

Joey

Most of the stability and scripting error fixes need a new playthru. If you've already hit a bad trigger or scripting error before the patch, but didn't know it, it will still cause issues. To get the most out of a patch that fixes core game scripting, you need to start over, I did and I played an 8 hour power session without a single freeze, crash or VATS glitch. Only thing I noticed was an audio bug where I'll still hear outdoor audio ambience after entering a building (though this goes away if the building has two cell zones and I enter the 2nd. Like going up to the second floor of the Bison Steve using the inside stair well.

I didn't want The Strip to feel like another New Reno. Whether you liked New Reno or hated it, they definitely had the Tommy Gun gangster thing going on. I also felt like I already had a good semi-auto and SMG progression in the core game: 9mm to 10mm to 12.7mm. I couldn't figure out a good way to slot .45 ACP weapons like the M1911 and Thompson into that progression. *~ Realistically ~* a weapon like the M1911 would probably be between the 9mm and 10mm but that felt awkward/not right.

The only way to have done this would be to replace the 10mm, a FO classic chambering with the .45ACP. You could then have made the M1911 and either the M3 or M1928/M1 in .45. There's lots of pitfalls with this though: People would rampage about the loss of the classic 10mm weapons; the M1911 is too esthetically similar to the Hi Power; the increase in energy from the 9mm to the .45 is less than the increase from the 9mm to the 10mm and conversely, the increase in power from the .45 to the 12.7mm is greater than from the 10mm to the 12.7mm, thereby creating a larger gap between the auto-pistol rounds than you probably could accept.

While I would love the .45ACP and the iconic weapons chambered for it the in the game (check the screenname, duh) I completely understand the reasons for not using them. The only other option would have been to not implement the 9mm, use the .45ACP as the low tier autopistol cartridge, but then your entry level auto pistol round would be either too powerful, or people like me would whine it's not as powerful as IRL. Better off the way you did it.

I noticed they seem to have added an achievement for finding the Vaults in the area.

Oh, was it all vaults? I completed one for Vault 19 and thought"......weird."

I just checked my steam achievements, and it's not there. What platform are you on? I wonder why they would add achievements for one platform and not the others (not that I care about them, just wondering)

No such achievement here on 360 either. Maybe he meant they added a new challenge in the game which is find all the vaults?

But so far I'm loving the weapon balance changes. My small frame character has a reason to fear powder gangers and vipers now. What with the increased dynamite blast radius and vipers having grenade rifles. It gets ugly out there.

I got killed dead last night by powder gangers. Guess I'm actually gonna have to get some real armor finally. Runnin' around the wastes in my skivvies might not be a good idea any more. That's a shame. I love the breezy feeling.

I've noticed less rendering glitches, so all the walls are getting there textures and such.

Maybe I over looked it, but does anyone know whether or not the Laser Beam Splitter works as advertised yet? I'm on the Box, so I have no G.E.C.K. to check it with.

It's a mystery. You can get a fix for it http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40465.

For me, it still doesn't. I can't break enemies with ~20 DT with a AER14 that does, supposedly, 27~ damage x 2, which is the beam splitter being two beams instead of three. Still though, the only good news is that more beams = more crit chance.

You can mod unique weapons?

It would be http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39651#fileanchor that does it.

For quick reference, the AER14 looks like http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/images/39651-1-1295166173.jpg.

While certainly telling, I don't think we can reliably count on modded gameplay to tell us. Who knows what PC mods for weapons can do to cause vanilla script to not work properly.

The weapon mod system for New Vegas is hardcoded and therefore, all mods that add weapon mods are bounded by these limitations. In fact, things like WMX are also subjected to glitches of the weapon mod system, like the durability mods going all funky with weapon repair kits.

I can basically tell you that if it doesn't work on the AER14, it won't work for the Laser Rifle. The amount of beams the beam splitter produces is literally determined by a single #. I can set it to 20 beams if I wanted to and it'll scale down accordingly.

I'll take out my Laser Rifle regardless if you want me to bury it once and forever.
