Do weapon requirements even matter

Post » Fri Jun 11, 2010 1:39 am

i Really cant notice a difference for any weapon that i dont meet the requirements for. For example my strenght is nowhere near enough for a rebar club, but i can still swing it at greater than 1attack per second.
I have also tried to notice the sway difference in guns i dont meet the skill/strenght requirement vs those i dont and have failed. Does anyone see any different?

No, in practice they don't matter.

However with Arwen's tweaks, not meeting neither strength nor skill requirement of a gun and you're lucky to hit the broad side of a barn :lmao:

I made a unique Fatman which is a MIRV, but has a strength requirement of 11 and requires an Explosives skill of 150. It's really inaccurate.

I'd say it is, mods can change the game in many ways. The one i mentioned increases diffculty in a more intelligent manner than the difficulty Enemy HP slider in the default game. Like i just said in the Skyrim section, two Powder Gangers throwing dynamite are a bigger threath than Old Olney in unmodded Fallout 3 :hehe:

The penalties are progressive and are easiest to notice on weapons that naturally have high accuracy. If you are 10 points below the skill requirement and 1 point below the ST requirement of an SMG, you're not going to notice it as much as being 50 points below the skill requirement and 5 points below the ST requirement of an Anti-Materiel Rifle.

The thing i've always wondered is how much better does it make the weapon going over the skill requirements. Like you have a gun that has a skill requirement of 75 and your gun skill is 100, how much better is that gun because of those extra 25 points? Is there a really big difference or is it just something thats barely even noticable?

There is defintely a penality for being below the skill requirement for guns. For instance with a 50 guns at a range of 2600 the Cowboy Repeater will have a 15% VATS hit chance. The Brush gun will have a 3% and the Trail Carbine will have a 6% hit chance. If you bump your skill up to a 100 all 3 guns will have a hit chance of 22 at the same range. Not super massive, but it is there.

Best way to test is with the PC using console commands. There does not appear to be a bonus for exceeding the skill requirements.
