Storming Black Mountain

Post » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:44 am

I started a new profile to do my Legion play through and I need some advice on how to tangle with Black Mountain. On my other profiles it took a boatload of ammo and a more than a few stimpaks to get through. I'm level 17 right now and I wanted to go do McNamara's thing and free Raul. So what's the best companion/armor/weapon load out? Also any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Can't remember location details but the last time I went up Black Mountain I found a few places that were perfect for sniping...it made for a very easy trek up the mountain....maybe not as much fun though.

Recruit http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Veronica at the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/188_trading_post. Take her to the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ruby_Hill_mine and get http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Pushy for Veronica.

After that, take her to Black Mountain, walk casually to the top and enjoy the show.

The biggest help, IMO, is Boone and ED-E (or maybe just Boone, I had both though)

They'll keep the Nightkin visible so you can plan better and won't get ambushed (as much.)

Well thanks for the suggestions guys. I can't decide between Boone/ED-E or giving Pushy to Veronica but it helped all the same. Most likely this'll be what happens :gun: and :flamethrower: and :toughninja: then

I'd take Boone if I wanted a boring and depressing lamer shooting his cheap rifle. I'd take Veronica if I wanted to see an awesome girl beat up a horde of mutants. Exploding mutant faces, sarcastic remarks, nightkin on the run!

The choice is yours though :whistling:

Was I the only one that repaired that robot then talked to the chick SM and ended everything peacefully? Of course, doing that screws you out of Annabelle and you get the dissatisfaction of fighting the Nightkin that didn't leave on the way down the mountain.

I would say it depends on your own combat style. Personally i like going solo with a silenced sniper (but that's my solution to everything)

I never really thought of 17 as a low level.

Go to the El Dorado substation http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/El_Dorado_substation and walk up the mountain until you get the map marker and then fast travel there with lots of ammo and decent armor. If you want to do it the normal way just pack a mini gun, ammo, stims and good armor and just walk casually up the mountain while you turn everything in to a fine red mist .

If your guns its insanely easy, just use a scoped weapon and when they get close use a hunting shotgun or assault carbine.

Hi there!
What I did was to take the path from Hidden Valley up to the crater, open the gate there and meet
with Neil, convincing him to help me. For some reason (the navmesh for pathfinding is likely broken there),
neither ED-E or Lily wanted to follow me up the ledge to the back of the Broadcasting station,
thus I had to leave them there waiting for my return. I then proceeded to the top by lockpicking
the other gate on the back side of the station and by moving carefully I sniped every patrolling mutant.
Taking off the sniper (wielding Annabelle) on the tower was tricky because he was covered from
almost every angle by the metallic structure but I managed to slip right under is feet and
sneak up to him undetected. It's amazing what Chance's knife can achieve, especially
when coated in poison ;)
From that point, it's a stroll in the park: you are at a vantage point, you can snipe
everything that comes charging at you and you can just lay mines at choke points
to at least cripple them as they come. Once I was confident that at least the top
had been wiped of all mutants, I went back to Lily telling her to wait me at the Lucky 38,
told ED-E to get along and together we went to fix Rhonda and, soon after
settling matters with Tabitha, to free Raul.

You can always come back to the place later on for profit and fun,
hostile supermutants are known to respawn.
one can harvest good loot.

There are pathway's you can take to seak behind them, waring one of them has rocks that fly down and can kill you (Killed me) And there are foot traps.
