Balance in the mojave after the DLC

Post » Fri Jun 25, 2010 7:05 pm

Level 50 sounds kind of ridiculous when you can destroy everything at level 30. Think they'll add any more high level creatures to the wasteland? The balance will be crazy bad if not.

As long as they're not bullet sponges, ala Fallout 3's Feral Ghoul Reaver. More Overlord-esque.

There will be a new trait (that can be retroactively taken) in Old World Blues that caps your level at 30.

Chris Avellone posted in another thread that certain NPCs (he mentioned Benny & Lanius) will now be scaled to your PC level. I don't know if this will be in a future patch or part of a DLC.

It looks like players who wish to maintain a challenge will have to be judicious about starting SPECIALs, Perks, Traits, Skill Books and gear choices. Like the song says, Nerf Yourself.

We have to remember that the majority of game players are a lot more casual than the handful that hang out here, and they like it bigger & better. That's where the money is, so that's the emphasis. Luckily for us, the devs are like us and have taken care to try to keep us happy, as well.

As a PC player all i need to do is change two game settings, levle cap and XP requirement increase for levels. I already have them as i run a heavily modified game with lots and lots more places to explore and enemies to kill.

svcks for console players that care about balance, though. The trait to limit the cap to 30 is good, but with all the DLCs it may mean you're going to hit the level cap with lots of stuff still left to do

It gonna be every 5 levels per dlc anyway. you'll be 40 this dlc. (feels like a birthday). Still the newest patch did start giving viper gangs a boost leveling wise, (kinda got a nasty shock on my unarmed guy when looking for rad suits when jumped by a group of grenade launcher viper gang member. So maybe the next few patches are gonna be leveling action.

That's actually a great idea. I'll definetly be taking that one, nothing's worse then destroying everything that moves in a single player game.

I think the more gap people are imaginging isn't quite as bad as people think.

A level fifty character has only one hundred more hit points then a level thirty character, considering the damage a brushgun or an anti-material rifle can do, not a huge leap in defense.
He has more skills and perks certainly but that doesn't necessarally make him more powerful simply more flexible. Instead of having all the perks and skills to dominate in two weapon styles you have all the perks to dominate in three or four. Here's whats going to matter Grim Reaper's Spirit only restores 20AP and no longer makes you nearly invunerable, that signifcantly effects the power creep. Because each DLC increases the level cap by 5 instead of one DLC adding twenty levels at once its doubtful we'll see any high level perks like Almost Perfect.

If dead money had added twenty levels it still wouldn't have been nearly as signficant as the near infinite supply of weapon repair kits, steady and other items from the vending machine.

Your probably not going to get that much more powerful from twenty more levels, you'll just have a lot more options in how you kill. What new equipment we get access to will be the real determining factor.

I tend to have trouble, and love to level, getting perks and such. But boredom makes getting perks and leveling less fun and more of a job. "I need to get another level so I can get my speach to level ___ so I can get ______ speach check passed." With the crazy 5 level per dlc (still sounds like a dlc is a birthday) means stats and perks after say level 40 will start to be redunant. i roleplay in these games and at level 40 i'm gonna start running out of things to put my points and perks into. That makes my roleplayers kinda iffy with my unarmed guy suddenly being bi, and able to reload faster for no reason. Sure the trait is gonna make it better for xbox and ps3 users, but I would have to wait til the next dlc comes out. What I hope for is new patches that start making perks and neffing stats as you level in order or even just like the vipers, getting level upgrades for enemys. Still small chance is that out of my playthrough only 1 while go past 40, 2 while be at 40, and the other will be at 30. the one being my unlock everything and be loved by everyone and basically be god manily for the lols. The other 2 being past my level 30 count and I wish for them to be at a safe level of 40.

They should include a perk "Almost OP" which raises all your skill levels to 90.

As long as the include certain enemies like Deathclaws and Super Mutants in this "boss" category, I'm sure things will turn out fine.

On a more serious note, I dont get what the devs are trying to do. With 5 more levels you are going to get 17x5 more skill points. Whats the point of making an RPG when your character is going to end up being good at everything. And WHY THE DAMN DO I NEED TO WASTE A TRAIT to play this game properly.

My serious suggestion to the devs is that sure increase the level cap, but levels after 30 shouldnt bring you more skill points. Only perk at every 2nd level and more health.

They should add Turbo Fiends, which are Fiends heavily addicted to Turbo, who run crazy mad fast, and hit you with Super Sledges painted with Tremble and Mother Darkness.

An enemy on Turbo would scare the crap out of me. I know I feel like Superman when I take it...

I think that people are over reacting to this just a little bit, if you dont want to go over level 30 then just take the perk that stops you from doing it. I actually kinda like the idea of being able to go all the way to level 50, it just seems to me like if you do get that far yor going to have to do it on purpose. Its not like your going to get halfway through the main quest and suddenly you hit 50, its something your going to have to actively try to do.

I think all Powder Gangers should be equipped with Fatmen and Rocket Launchers. Sounds pretty legit, balance wise.
