Thinking of taking a shot with FONV because I heard Obsidian

wait till you play sneaky sniper in nv. They even have silencers and armour piercing bullets. Most NPCs will not shoot you on sight no matter what you do to their faction, and you can get a surveillance drone ( Eyebot ed e ) That must give you likd 35 perception. He is a snipers dream. Be prepared to not get shot like ever......

People say the main story in nv is better. I fail to see it. The main story in fo3 was much more heart felt IMO.

It is. First off, you get choices(which you will dismiss, yeah we've been over this before), second: the choices involve many factions with their own mentalities instead of doing the usual "here's a top-tier guy in black armor who kills you. Kill all of them to win the game!", third: all of that is even involved in the ending(which you will dismiss again, but I fail to see how a fixed ending from F3 is any better?).

Also, I don't consider badly written dialogues and cardboard characters with wasted potential(Dad and the Colonel) as "much more to heart" IMHO. I was even eye-rolling during the suicide scene.

The game's not a problem, but the narration and writing is. Good thing there's New Vegas and The Witcher 2 for my fix. :mohawk:

EDIT:(I feel like I have to say this everytime or I'll get the forum police on my doorstep  ) I don't hate F3. I don't hate sandbox. I also don't hate open-world and nice scenery.

To the OP: I hear the opposite a lot, that modding isn't quite as active as FO3. Most of the mods you'll run into are of the small, "could make them myself w/the GECK and 5-20 minutes" type. And many FO3 mods have been ported over to FNV (albeit sometimes with changes), eg. they're not completely new. But there are plenty of good/useful mods regardless, and I suspect some still to come, since as mentioned, the complex mods take a lot of time to cobble together.

The vanilla game's difficulty is not that high, even on Very Hard. In my opinion, leveling is a bit too fast, so I use mods to slow that way down. Sneak critical damage is immense & I lowered that by a lot. The main game's general world is a bit too empty of enemies for my liking, so I use Increased Wasteland Spawns to fill it up a bit more. Environmentally, Nevada Skies is a must-have, imo. I haven't tried many of the serious gameplay changers because even after all this time, I still like the core gameplay well enough, but there are several that are very good looking/seem awesome for those who want more significant change, like the ones someone in this thread posted.

If the game had bullet physics like STALKER sniping would more challenging and fun. Gravity effecting the trajectory of bullets would mean having to aim above your target and you would have to lead your target if it is moving. I wish NV had combat as in-depth as the story because that would have made it the best game ever!

I was thinking of checking out STALKER, too. My sister's bf played it and he said that the original isn't all the great, but with the patch and the STALKER complete 2009 mod, it really cranks up the game.

I don't have a problem with not getting shot. I have a problem with it being too easy to not get shot. Let me give you an example. Not too long ago, I replayed the original Splinter Cell. I usually get through that game without taking any damage (some levels without even being slightly detected), but it can be a bit of a challenge to find the right places to hide and the right paths to take to stay under the radar. The Thief series was the same way. I'd go through the games without taking a hit, but it took a lot of finesse and wit. I didn't have that experience with FO3. Not that I expected it to be designed as a sneaker, but I think I would have preferred it if the stealth system was more harsh. FOT is a good example of this. Stealth was invaluable for positioning my squad and taking advantage of the terrain, but I would have to be careful how I used it. If I got too cocky with a recruit, s/he would be detected and nobody else would be in position. For FO, I think it would go a long way if living mobs would recognize the fallen bodies of mobs I've taken out, and respond accordingly (not necessarily totally blowing my cover, but upping the stakes a little). I just started my first NV game, we'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to it.
