Ghosts in Goodsprings Cemetary

Post » Sat Jul 17, 2010 4:59 am

Alright, so I have terrible performance problems with Fallout: New Vegas, but after a Month or so of tweaking, I got the game to work. So, I started the game, and at about level 5, I returned to Goodsprings to do the quest with the Powder Gangers in Goodsprings. After the gunfight, it was about 5pm and I sold some stuff at the General Store, then headed for the cemetary that I hadn't looted yet. I dug up one grave, then I thought I heard something. I drew my service rifle, and stopped. There was a faint whispering that was really strange - but I couldn't see anything that could be making the noise. I thought maybe it was ghouls...but they aren't near Goodsprings, nor did they make the sound. I dug up another. The sound stopped. I walked around a bit, and the sound ONLY plays at the center area of the graveyard. When you draw nearer to your dug up shallow grave, it gets slightly louder.

After doing a short Google of the subject, I got nothing about this. It might just be an Ambient Sound marker placed in the cemetary, but I don't know anywhere else in the game that has this, it also REALLY freaks me out.

I think you people should try this.

It's a recurring noise in graveyards. It also happens in the graveyard at Camp Forlorn Hope. I take the sound to be an allegory to the dead being angered that The Courier 'cheated death'.

That's cool, I never knew it was even there. I think your theory is pretty good too.

I believe you can hear it by the canyon wreckage outside Primm. I could've sworn it was saying something.. Very eerie indeed...

The graveyard at Camp Forlorn Hope also has the whisper. It's not actually a sound marker, but an emitted sound out of the headstones themselves, much like the creaking sound of high-voltage powerline towers or the liquid clunking of water towers.

The graveyard in NAFB also has it, but if you turn the volume up really high you can hear the words, talking about revenge and such.

It wouldn't be the first Fallout ghost either. In Fallout 2, there's a ghost in The Den that you can lay to rest.

There are also ghosts in Fallout 3. the Dunwich building has stuff being thrown at you, doors opening and closing, a flashback, and an eerie sound similar to the one in the cemetery around the obelisk in the basemant

That was not a ghost. That was something more... eldritch.

That was actually an easter egg if I remember right, like all the special encounters.

Anyways I think it has something to do with Ulysses...

Depends on what you're talking about. The book and the Obelisk stuff were definitely Lovecraftian (though the whispering may or may not have been ghosts), but the opening doors, moving objects and the like were most certainly ghosts.

Not exactly related but I noticed that when you get close to the little Hula dancers you hear the ghostly Hula dance song play. :violin:
