Yes, let's boycott a game being made by a different company because some people have issues with bugs.

I'm personally going to wait before buying NV. I was expecting something new but it would seem like they're re-selling Fallout 3 with a new story. While I prefer content over graphics, I admit that I was waiting for better graphics and atmosphere. To me, Fallout 3 was rather pathetic compared to Stalker when it comes to atmosphere, it didn't seem serious and cold/harsh enough. Sometimes the graphics are required for the content to succeed.

I am personally affraid of New Vegas being so much alike Fallout 3 that it will die of old age before you finish the game. In other words, it could become booring simply because you start to find too many similarities (same structures (bridges, sandbags and roads), armors (leather and merc adventurer), land and building textures, weapons (sniper), monsters (supermutants, ghouls)). I believe the similarities will be especially annoying for myself simply because the leather armor is the most common armor I use early in the game. The sniper rifle is my favorite weapon, and I hate the super mutants (though not nearly as much as the rad scorpions). Obviously the same engine produces the same glitches and bugs. I had no problems with Fallout 3, but I'd say the ones that had have a high risk of having the exact same problems with NV as they had in F3.

My current thoughts are based on screenshots and they may not be accurate. In any case, I'm not going to pre-order and I'm going to let someone else try it out before I buy it.

NV looks like an expansion for FO3. I already decided, the moment I saw the gameplay trailer, that I wasn't going to get it - not because I've been [censored] over by gamesas, but because I have better things to do than play a total conversion mod for FO3.

Like playing some Exalted with friends, or playing games that won't crash on my PC - such as Arkham Asylum, or FarCry 2, or Dragon Age Origins, or Alpha Protocol, all of which I own on Steam (likewise FO3) and run perfectly fine without crashing (well, AP crashes if I alt-tab out and try to get back in, but the first time I played it, I finished it in a single 21 hour sitting, which I've not been able to do with FO3 since patch 1.3).

So, sure - if you want to boycott NV, count me in.

I find it funny that people are annoyed about Fallout 3's stability without realizing that they're at fault for the crashes. If you could look past your own nose you would realize that Fallout 3 was designed to work with a two core processor and nothing else. That and the massive FAQ which more or less covers every single possible game crash issue present within the game. You're on an i7, disable those five other cores while playing and the game will probably cease crashing.

But being closed minded and extremist is fun, hip and cool, so let's follow that path blindly. Or we could take some effort, read a couple guides and fix the problems ourselves instead of complaining about them. In the time it took you to think up and type out that post I bet you could have fixed your game's problems and installed a few neat and handy mods to top it off.

AMEN! FO3 is one of the most stable games I have on my harddrive at the moment. It is modded to hell and back and I still don't crash. I read BEFORE I installed anything, took everything step by step and with the help of this amazing community have been playing this game for almost 100hrs with less than 2 crashes (both because of a mod!!!) My wife has been playing for almost 50hrs with no crashes (and a completely different computer setup!!) If you are modding, FOMM, BOSS-F, and Wrye Bash are your friends people. If you are having trouble with Vanilla FO3, then you REALLY need to read the guides before installing. Something in YOUR system is causing that and you can't blame Bethesda for your inability to READ.

Don't blame the developers for your crash/freeze issues... Since most players don't encounter the same issues, it can't be caused by the game. An example of a severe developer-caused bug was the graphics corruption in 360's Pitt when it was released first time, but it was fixed soon after.

I usually take a CTD as a sign that I should stop playing games and do my homework :)

I am personally going to wait a while to get the game on the pc, simply so I can get a few fun mods. really looking foward to it after seeing the E3 trailors and game play vids, sounds like standard fallout 3 game style, but with weapon mod kits, a mode like FWE, and possibly more useful followers.

can't wait

Plenty of games were designed to use only one or two cores and they still work perfectly on Quad cores. I can run games from the mid 90s on my Quad core without crashes/freezes.

I've read every FAQ, tried every fix suggested (and editing .ini files shouldn't be required to get a game to work in this day and age). I've used two seperate computers, one of them I've installed three different OS (XP, Vista, and Win7), clean installs with nothing but the lastest drivers available installed (so only the default codecs windows installs). The game still freezes at random points, what am I supposed to do? Buy another new computer? Or randomly replace components until the game works? My other 40-50 games work perfectly, including stuff from the 90s. I've done everything I reasonably can to fix the problem.

I'm not going to boycott NV. Though I will wait a couple of weeks before buying to see if there are similar problems.

I completely agree with you Katar, I just recently bought a new computer, worth around almost $1000 and all my games work 100% okay except for FO3 GOTY... (I run left for dead, and Starcraft 2 on ultra high graphics) From what I've looked up it's because of the updates... I've read that ever since 1.1 or so the same problem has been happening with computers with Vista and Windows 7. This could be your issue, but I'm not sure what problems you're having so I'll state mine:

the instal seemed to go perfectly, and the game starts. I can start a new game and see the credits, but after a certain time it just freezes. I can sometimes still hear the music and noise, but the screen looks to freeze.

If anyone knows any solutions to the problem, I would appreciate the help.

Thanks.

There could be a lot of reasons to the freeze. If you want help, try creating a new thread and include your dxdiag.

That would be the best idea.

As the OP removed his post I think this can be closed.
