Fallout 3 Freezes,but sound is still working

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 4:27 pm

Hello,

I got a problem.

I've bought F3 from Amazon and started to play it. But the game is crashing, mostly a few seconds after the game is saving.Then i have to open the task manager and close it.

The biggest problems are the Houses.Mostly, if I'm in a house, the game is crashing 5-20 secs after I've started the game,thats really enjoying...

I'm using version 1.7 and after it started to crash I've started to install the unoficial fallout 3 patch, but it didnt really help.

I've got my grafic card updated to the newest version and tried many things which I've read in different Forums.

I've also asked in a german fan forum, but they dont really know how to help me.

I got Win 7 64bit
Amd Phenom II X4 955
Ati HD5770 Vapor-X
4GB RAM

i think my pc is good enough for the game...

do you have any tipps for me?

You have a quad core CPU, try the quad core fix.

Open up the .ini file located in My Documents>My Games>Fallout 3. *Do not alter the one in the actual game directory labeled Fallout_Default_ini*
In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

ok, I'm having the same problem. Tried the fix, couldn't get it to work, froze after a good while. Did much better than last time, but still didn't really fix the problem.

There was no other INI file in the game's folder.

I'm using 1.7, and have all the DLC.

My hardware is (According to dxdiag):
------------------
System Information
------------------
Operating System: Windows Vista? Ultimate (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.100608-0458)
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 4094MB RAM
Page File: 5492MB used, 2873MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295

On an unrelated note, I'm having MASSIVE lag issues, and my PC is built for Graphic intense games, such as Fallout and others. Also, my DLC is not staying checked when I go into the "Data Files" Option...

@Xlaits
Normally I will tell you to create your own thread with the whole dxdiag.....but this is very obvious. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Your page file used is almost 5500! It should be about 800MB for a base version of Vista/7. Yes it says XP, but its the same in all the major versions of Windows.

Clean boot?

Also, I'm not running a base version of Vista, if you've noticed.

And, I've added and edited since you posted...

I meant base version of Windows as in no background software running, that could be the problem, the clean boot described will run the OS without any other background tasks. The game doesnt like other programs. And you would be seeing some lag because its paging to your hard drive instead of using RAM. Since you have a such high page file already, it has trouble paging to the drive as fast as it could.

The part about the data files not being checked is pretty common. They are checked until you re open the data files section again. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640

Alright, I'm actually already RUNNING in a clean boot state. I do remember that GameBooster did make it not crash, but the lag was still there.
