This thought also appeared in my head, during one of discussions.
But there is perfect explanation for it (or at least acceptable one)
Each next game need to be improvement over previous one, but unfortunately TES series is stomping in one place
TES2>TES3
World size was decreased, and number of interaction with game world was smaller (numerous examples), also character creation was simplified
on the other hand graphics were improved, game world became more packed, and role system was actually polished (sometimes it seems that too much, but still)
TES3>TES4
World size was decreased once more (slightly), role system was simplified, quicktravelling system was bad, and level-scaling was even worse
But once again graphics and animations were improved, NPCs started to resemble actual human beings
So for me reason is clear- we get better graphics and animations with each new game, but price for that is decreased game world and simplifying of role system and game world interaction
And since I'm not graphics biach, I don't think this exchange is fair.
