Never let Obsidian make another Fallout!

If there was one thing about NV I hated, it was the happy go lucky atmosphere.
If FO4 has be set 60 years after the bombs to retain the actual feeling of a wasteland, then so be it. But do not, at all costs, simply create another 3rd world country like NV was. Sheeh it's awful.

But it is the original atmosphere

Meaning Fallout 3?

I dunno... not so much in FO1 or FO2. They had comedy mixed with horror, and a generally squalid existence for all.

Nothing like Moira or those quests of her's.

I mean, the NV atmosphere is like the original atmosphere, rather then the gloom, doomed atmosphere of CW

Obsidian should not make another Fallout, NV lacked the story telling 3 had. Yea you could use iron sights, and make [censored] from fires. It's not like put all the effort and creativity they could of into NV. To be honest it lacked alot

I loved Fallout 3 when I first played it ( as it was my first Fallout game). But knowing the lore for Fallout and having played both 1 and 2 I have to say Fallout 3's story pales in comparison to New Vegas. Fallout 3 really didn't really introduce anything new. In 2 You had the BoS planning and scoping out the Enclave and being worried about how the Enclave is superior. In 3 you had the same thing except with a larger BoS presence and a full-on war. In 1 you had the Super Mutants, in the 3 more Super Mutants. Both antagonists were recycled from 1 and 2. New Vegas was fresh it introduced a viable new faction: Mr. House/Strip. Even though it was supposed to be in Van Buren Caesar's Legion was new and it wasn't seen in any other Fallout game. New Vegas was made by a team who was compromised of some of the people who worked on the originals. I'm not trying to bash Fallout 3 as it was a great game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It just could've done with more thought.

The main problem is that Bethesda has never been good at making plots. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 had generally boring plots, not that they were bad games, Morrowind is one of if not my favorite RPG ever they just didn't have great plots. If Bethesda would let Obsidian make the plots for their open world games it would be the best of both worlds.

You would have:
- The better story of New Vegas
- The better free roaming of Fallout 3

That would be like the best Fallout Game ever. They would just have to make it so unlike fallout 3 you cant skip 50% of the main quest on accident.

I've got to agree obsidion wrote a heck of a story with new vegas, the main stories in Oblivion and 3 were okay but nothing special, I also agree that new vegas could have done better exploration simply by opening up more buildings and adding a few things here or there but I think the reason it was lacking was due to time constraints dealing with a 2 year game coupled with working with a really bugy engine that caused issues.

I would have to say that nothing you've stated above is very far from my own thinking. I will add one thing that I miss: Random encounters. Not really FO3 style, but more like the kind of random encounters you'd get in PnP RPGs. In other words: Really random. They could happen anywhere, at any time. There could be a subset of random city encounters, subsets of random wilderness encounters based on type of terrain, etc... One of the things I've always liked about RPGs is that in a well run game/campaign, just about anything could happen at just about anytime. So here's to a robust dymanic random encounter generation system :celebration:
