Delete the GAME DATA UTILITY of Fallout 3. NOT THE SAVE FILE!
Then re-download the patch and when the game finally loads. Press start and wait about 30 minutes for the game to install itself to the hard-drive.

Yes I have seen results from this. In some areas such as the super duper mart & some areas in point lookout. The game would crash. I would delete the game data utility and it would fix it self. But then I would have to do it again because I will encounter another major bug.

I forgot his name but he is the Outcast leader. Whom you give technology to and he gives you ammo, stimpaks and grenades in return. Anyway my game almost always crashes near him. Its because he is caring more then 100 scrap metals, 38 plasma rifles, 62 laser rifles and tons of other stuff. Making that location impossible to reach.

Interesting

I also get a lot of lag around Fort Independence which sometimes leads to freezing. That Protector Casdin theory mentioned seems pretty true. Only since I have been doing the tech swaps with him has it became laggy, as its never like that when you first get there with that scripted event. I thought before it was just a neglected area in development as the building is glitchy aswell.

For me, it never laged near the Super-Duper Mart , and I didn't download any patches (I have the GOTY), because I read that a patch actually gets the save file bigger...

It froze twice for me when trying to discover Fort Independence.
