Does anyone else find Binoculars to be useful?

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 1:42 pm

Useful unless I'm playing a sniper, but even then I always keep them in my inventory. They're just cool to have. Would love to see mods for them.

There are a number of good mods for them if you are on the PC. Better zoom, nightvision all that stuff

I play on the 360. I meant weapon mods like Enduring Protectron mentioned earlier. Unlikely, but would be cool.

I just use a gun scope. Usually at least one gun I'm carrying has one. Feels easier than either opening my Pipboy to equip them or wasting a hotkey on the binocs.

Not really since I prefer a scope on my weapons and they have better zoom so there redundant for me although I have used them up until I purchased a scope.

This is brilliant! They're a weapon, so they can receive mods right? Robot, you're a guiness!

I personally think they are insanely pointless (don't i have a scope on my gauss rifle in the first place?).

I use them but I wish they had more zoom.

Binoculars need mods.
Binoculars+
High Magnification Lenses: +30% Zoom
Night Vision Module: Night Vision Effect after Dark
Target Acquisition Computer: Highlights Characters in the world (like Boone's Perk)

Yeah, I use them until I have enough for a sniper rifle or a scope for a hunting rifle pops up. After that I give them to my followers and pretend they use them. lol

Binos seem like one of those odd things just added to the game for atmosphere and to give RP'ers a little giggle... because for all practical purposes they are about as useful as the toasters or butter knives laying about, considering the scope you can get on the beginner varmint rifle is far superior to them. Why didn't they give them some advantage over even an average rifle scope? Like Lady C mentioned previously, not only are they inferior in performance to any rifle scope, but you have to either waste time opening up your pipboy just to select and use them, or waste a valuable weapon-slot on them. All downsides, no upsides... unless you are too clueless to find some kind of scope early on, I guess.

They're only there because of the ten million idiots screaming for binoculars, flashlights, and the resource micromanagement changes that would become the "hardcoe" mode.

Hey, I /like/ hardcoe mode. :(

As for the binoculars themselves, I don't find them overly useful, but I do like carrying them for RP purposes.

now that i think about it, in early levels i regularly holster my weaponand then left trigger zoom, which does the job for immediate threats. i always imagine putting my hand up to shield my eyes from the suns glare, improving my perception

I usually just use my hunting rifle. That way, I can immediately solve any problems I see through the scope.

I would hope in the next DLC that Bethesda will tell Obsidian to put in Bincoculars that have the best Zoom in the game so it can actually be of use.

Feel like their good to have anyways. I always get a little triggerhappy when im in the sniper scope and it have often caused alot of problems that I easily could have avoided by not have the possibility to shoot :whistling:

All very good mods... should be made.

Binocs were one of the three items I took with me to Zion; the other two being That Gun and an unmodded Hunting Rifle. I use Binoculars for my main character; it adds to the "good" realism of the game, something which I generally lack, mainly because I don't use my hardcoe character as often as I use my non-hardcoe character.

Nope. You aren't the only one OP. I too use them. Although, I used them more before I had scoped weapons. I too sit on ridges and "spot" targets. Although, again, I now do it with a scoped hunting rifle. Sometimes I just observe but most times I take the shot. I do still carry a pair of binocs around for those moments when you are "spotting" friendlies and don't want to accidentally pop one.

I've carried them around since day one, (six play throughs later), and I've only used them once. I think I'll go find those mods I've heard about to make them usefull.
