Guns accuracy

Is accuracy of all guns much lower in VATS by default compared to energy weapons, especially lasers?

And another thing, ED-E just broke after I acquired it in Primm, it doesn't follow me anywhere, I can only get it to move if I load an area.

Weapon spread varies depending on the weapon not the type of weapon most of the firearms have little spread it really depends on what gun and whar energy weapon. As for ED-E make sure your game is updated otherwise try firing and then re-hiring thats worked for me most of the time.

I didn't know that about spread, but according to http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_weapons it is what I said, almost all guns are by default much less accurate than laser weapons in VATS.

laser weapons have no recoil, thus are more steady.

I know, that's how it should be, I just wasn't sure. I like to use VATS a lot so this makes guns much less appealing now.

In rpgs everything goes by stats. Watch some real war footage. Many more bullets miss than actually hit somthing.

If every bullet hit where you were aiming then it really would be cod.

Your characters gun skill has alot to do with accuracy in vats. Guns will never be as accurate as a laser rifle, but a laser rifle isn t as powerful as most mid to long range guns.

There's a weapon stat in the geck called base chance to hit in VATS or something like that. I haven't really mussed around with it too much as I rarely use vats, but I do recall that not all weapons are created equal as far as this stat goes. Also, the range of the weapon seems to have something to do with vats accuracy. You'd probably get better answers from a weapons modder, since, as I've said, I haven't messed with the vats numbers and am probably getting this all wrong anyways.

How much percentage perception attribute adds to accuracy?

That is one of the biggest questions I've wondered about, in FO. That, and what exact *hidden* affects do each of the primary stats and skills have... affects that aren't mentioned or are not discussed in detail by the ingame descriptions, or the wikis, etc. They are hinted at, but their full and complete detailed influence on everything in the game... that is a shadowy area that I would very much like to know more about. Anyone know of any good website articles that actually go into the full secrets of these affects? It would certainly help, when you are considering how to allot your points into various attributes and skills, for different desired builds. And just because.... i want to know! lol

And I have no desire (or ability) to figure out what the 'GECK' is, let alone try to decipher it. Others already have, it's their brains I want to pick :-)

I just tested it out, and perception has no effect on accuracy either inside V.A.T.S. or out.

Accuracy is effected by strength requirements, skill requirements, and individual weapon spread. Along with distance to target / picture of area and perk modifications when using V.A.T.S.
- I haven't tested crippled limbs, weapon condition, nor skill above requirements in relation to accuracy. Assuming a huge effect, no effect, no effect respectively.

Perception increases the distance at which you can detect enemies on the compass as it's 'cool feature,' along with increasing energy weapons / explosives / lockpick skills by 2 per point.

Perception would make almost no difference with weapons since it is almost negligible compared to the amount of spread. This is especially true with shotguns and automatic weapons and shooting at long ranges with any weapon.

EDIT: if they returned Perception to the original effect it would increase the effective range of weapons more than actually increasing accuracy. So if a weapon has an effective range of 20 yards it will have crap accuracy against farther targets due to penalty modifiers and increasing perception would increase the range to say... 40 yards at 10. This would not change the accuracy within the first 20, but it would remove the penalties from the next 20 yards.
