Anyone else find ED-E to be annoying sometimes?

Post » Fri Aug 27, 2010 2:22 pm

Topic.

Don't get me wrong... he is GREAT when combined with Boone. Best Companion combo i've found yet. The only thing that bugs me though is ED-E really.

His "Enhanced Sensors" being able to give you a longer range on your compass. I find it extremely aggravating when I see 4-5 hash marks on my Compass HOPING to run into like a group of actual people/deathclaws/etc. for GOOD XP.

What happens 85% of the time? I run into a group of Coyote/Molerat/BLOATFLY!

I just find it annoying as hell that once I see these "groups" and go investigate (which usually takes a GOOOD long long walk to get to them. JUST to find out that they're something very weak.

I might be in a rage mood cause the game keeps glitching on me NUMEROUSLY (VATS). Or IDK... but what are your thoughts? :flamethrower:

I find ED-E to be annoying because, and I suppose it's a bug of some sort...but he loses Anti Materiel rifles...Two of them now..I refuse to use him anymore because I just don't have the caps to keep buying them. Arcade and Boone both annoy me too, but that's only because they steal kills..

I kinda know what you mean, when red ticks appear on my compass I feel duty-bound to investigate and often get horribly sidetracked hunting down scrubs. His sensors are almost too powerful.

Only find the music bits that he plays when he spots an enemy to be ultra annoying. Other than that, he's pretty much my bud.

I honostly don't mind him, he's one of my favorite companions....

EDIT - Well, to be perfectly honest, the only time I find him annoying is when I'm in a facility/small map/multiple floored map and I go to investigate the tick but find it on a different floor. :banghead:

Hate that sound. What's the point? None of the other companions need to emit such a stupid noise when they go into combat mode. It's just distracting and way too loud. If there's a mod that turns it off, I am SOOO onnit....

Though his battle cry gets real tedious real fast, I can't help but love the little guy. He just seems so happy go lucky for a robot. His upgraded laser in the presence of multiple baddies doesn't hurt either.

The other day I was surfing around on the vault and found a link to the Game play trailer for FONV. I had never viewed it before so I watched it. It was horrible what i saw.

My little buddy ED-E happily cruising along playing I Got Spurs, then WHAM he gets shot in the head twice, kinda foreshadowing another poor soul who had this happen. I want to know who shot him down so i can slowly kill them by crippling every body part individually. It was awful. Explains how he got in the Mojave express office though.

BTW, VERY random question but.. I'm trying to find all the Snowglobes for the Achievement. I'm in the Lucky 38 right now, and it won't let me go anywhere cept the Penthouse OR Casion. (I can't go to the Cocktail Lounge where it's LOCATED?)

Why can't I? I don't understand I've NEVER had an issue transversing floors in the 38 EVER before?

Glad to know I'm not the only one lmao.

On the Lucky 38 problem. I'm going to assume you've already talked to house and everything, and if that is the case; you might be glitched. I've heard of a semi rare glitch that denies access to the rest of L38 after you talk to house. Though I could have sworn it was patched. I'd suggest either reverting to a previous save (if you have one), reloading, or you may have to start a new game altogether.

EDIT - Holy cow, sorry for the late reply. Could have sworn I hit sumbit. :banghead:

I don't mind ED-E's long-range sensors, since I always take 1 rank of Animal Friend which weeds out about 95% of the 'scrubs' I'd otherwise be dealing with. I will admit that it can be a bit disorienting in interiors where the additional floors are not separate cells, especially Vault 34 (I ended up telling him to park it as he kept dropping 3 holes down and getting swarmed).

His 'battle cry', OTOH, occasionally makes me almost jump out of my chair; I really get into it when sneaking around, and suddenly he'll go off and I'll be all :shocking:. Damn near blasted him instead several times.

That little tin can peace of sh!t, Just disappears on me.

The only reason I keep him, Is for his perk.

I just wish I could have ED-E again. My main character had him disappear from the game, never to appear again. (forcing me to roleplay his unfortunate death during the assassination of Caesar and the Praetorian guard)

I've always found EDE's perk a tad annoying because I don't like seeing the red on my compass when the enemies are still miles and miles away. I don't see the point in that most of the time. It's just distracting, thinking enemies are close when they're still so far away I'd have to run a while to get to them. It's not a big deal, but when combined with that constant, tiny "eeeeeeeee" gear-hum that he makes when moving ("walking") I don't use him anymore.

He's cute and I like him, but once was enough. :D

I love the little bugger, Me, Boone and ED-E. Perfect Match.

Rex just for me glitches all the time, well more so than ED-E. I wish there were options to add mods to him in game, adding extra's to his armour/laser. ( i know BOS/Follwers do this).

I use http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35082 to switch it with something completely different :)

I like ED-E and on a new character get him before anyone else, usually instead of anyone else. I guess the only little thing that annoys me is the whirring sound he makes when he's following. That gets a bit loud sometimes. But, it could be worse, it could be as loud as RL-3 from Fallout 3. That was annoying

^This^

I thought "great, a floating storage locker" but he never seemed to stay on passive for me, kept shooting everything in sight. I usually sneak past enemies that eat up my bullets and give little to nothing in return ... not with ED-E in tow :(

I like Eddy, and usually when I see red ticks i know what they are (since everything spawns in the same place) so i ignore them most of the time. But for the times I don't know what they are or am just out hunting, I like that I know where enemies are before the sun can even see me over the horizon

I'm very fond of Ed-E. I was terrified in the beginning of this game, as the last one scared me [censored]less. I live alone, and I have memories of playing the last one and coming face to face with my first ever ghoul and almost [censored]ting myself with fear. Slept with the lights on after that. Had to check every room before going to bed.
So this game, I was really scared of going out there, and especially scared of going to ghoul heavy buildings. But then I met Ed-E, fixed him, and found that he was aggressively loyal and seemed quite happy to hum along slaughtering Ghouls and singing to me.
I dont think I'd still be playing this game if it werent for Ed-E. Even if it's only psychological, I feel alot safer facing places like Repconn and some of the more horrible vaults with him by my side.

Wow my ED-E experience is the exact opposite lol

I kinda like his battle cry and he never ever runs away.
Quite the opposite in fact, he usually charges head-on a annihilates stuff before I can join in :(

Then again my ED-E is dual upgraded he's more like a fricken mini LP than an eyebot tbh..

Little dude cleared out deadwind cavern solo, only finally getting taken down by the legendary. (after putting some significant hurt on it)

Maybe my Ed-E is just badly glitched? either way I never complain, except for when he steals all my kills but turning him to melee fixes that lol.

ED-E's perk is very useful, but yes all the blips that pop up can lead to target paranoia.
This is easy to work around, just look out around and find high ground to gain LoS first.
ED-E herself / himself / itself / myself is annoying in general due to it's glitchy behaviour.. a loveable pain in the donkey.

He's been "poofing" on me as well. I just recently "dealt" with the Omertas at the Gomorrah for the NCR (kill Big Sal and Nero, got Cachino to do it for me heh).

First, after I investiwait gated the Suites Level I wanted to go into a room I got a Key from Clandon to. I told them to stay in a hallway and sit tight while I poke around. Then told them to follow me.

I finally get OUT of the Gomorrah, and they didn't even follow OR budge. So, I had to go get them. Got Boone, then later on i'm doing snowglobe hunting I noticed ED-E wasn't even with me? Where is HE? The GOMORRAH STILL?

This happened 2 times now, I swear...

I want to upgrade him as well, got the 2nd things of dialogue and someone said I have to wait 7-9 days now? Why is this taking so long to upgrade a frigging Eyebot?! :brokencomputer:

EDIT: I really just keep him for storage. PLUS, ED-E > Rex... Rex's footsteps are SOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying!! And him barking and growling at things he can't even see just makes sneaking impossible lol...

He's still a tin can peace of sh!t after the upgrade.

But I like his perk. So he stays. Just wish he would shut that damn song off.
