Starting out again...

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:16 pm

Hello :)

The last time i played F:NV was about 6 months ago, and i've started to miss quite it a bit. So i'm going to start playing it again. However, i don't know how to start out. The start isn't as exciting as the first time i played it (of course), so i'm pretty much just skipping it, which is a shame. And there's some of the quests that i simply can't complete again. I would like to know what i can do to step up the replayability.

Any help would be really appriciated! :fallout:

Choose completely different skills.
Did you go Guns? Then go Energy Weapons, close combat or exclusively Explosives.
Did you go Lockpick but not Science? Then go Science and not Lockpick.
Did you go Speech instead of Barter? Then go Barter.
Did you join X? Then join Y, Z or ?.
Did you help Goodsprings? Then help Powder Gangers.
Try to explore what you didn't explore the first time through.
Try trying out roleplaying limitations.
Try a pacifist playthrough.
Lots of things to do.

This^

I just got Dead Money and Honest Hearts, which both were well worth the loot and money to get. It's the only thing stopping me from playing Brink (until I get these last 6 achievements I want before my new character).

That, and get to know alot of the tribes. Try to conquer/take control of one. Setup your character around that. Like, my Mr. House storyline guy is an AP fanatic. My character after that is going to be pure EVIL. Going with the Legion and proving to Ceaser that I'm a bigger B-A then J Graham and Legate combined!!! (Gonna be melee/unarmed 100%)

That's all I can think of... lol

Thank you, but i have quite a hard time doing some of those things. I have played the game how i wanted to before, (that meaning teaming up with the things i like and such). So doing some of the things above, like helping the Powder Gangers, wouldn't be too much fun to me (simply because i hate them and they're douchebags).

Seems like it's too hard to get myself to play this game in another way than i would usually.

It is hard to do things differently for some quests when helping a certain faction means a bunch of angry little [censored] takes over a town that just saved your life. I've tried to help the Powder Gangers on a few playthrus and it's just so unrewarding for me personally to see the dead bodies of people that helped you start out in the world just to gain a short term advantage with a faction so full of useless human beings.

It's become my personal rule on any future games to make the total eradication of the Gangers any early goal to accomplish, and the constant farming of them respawning on the Long 15 around the NCRCF as you traverse the area while heading to other quest locations or to resupply (I have a base in Goodsprings and I don't fast travel) lets any character build up a respectable stash of 5.56mm ammo and dynamite which will carry you through the early levels of the game just fine.

Dunno what to say then, it's a roleplaying game, gotta learn how to roleplay.
For example, I hate the NCR and believes that helping them is for the worse of the Mojave and the future of Arizona and Core Region.
Despite this I'm interested in seeing how the other side is like, I don't like that I'm dooming everyone, but it's sometimes interesting to be a dike.
So try it out, I know it's hard to do something completely opposite of... You.
Like a better example: I [censored] LOVE Ashur, but I wanted to see what Wherner's side was all about, so I joined Wherner, killed Ashur and his wife and kidnapped their daughter.
I felt like complete [censored] after doing it but at least I got to see what the other side was like. :)

I know this will sound stupid, but you must role play that you don t know what you know. You know, but your character does not.

I had the same problem when i wanted to replay NV … after a short while i got bored quickly doing the same quests(even if it was in different way).

This time I decided to completely neglect the main quest, and just pretend I’m some loner living out in the Mojave desert going about his daily business of having to get out for supplies and running into quest while doing just that (kind of like in mad max 2). I ran from Goodsprings to the Eldorado gas station and took that as my starting point/home.

This is working out for me so far … =)
