Crysis 2, ALIEN DESIGN

Post » Mon Oct 18, 2010 8:27 am

Why the drastic and total change of the aliens appearance?

The aliens In Crysis 1 were octopus-like, made with blue kinds of alien materials, either flying or walking on four tentacle legs and they used ice and cold as their weapon.

From what I've seen of Crysis 2 almost all of the aliens walk on two legs (which doesn't make that much sense since they don't have two legs), the aliens themselves are red rather than blue as in the old game and so are the details on their armor and ships.
The material of the armors and weapons are made of just looks like regular steel and doesn't stand out from any other Sci-Fi game like the aliens in Crysis 1 do.

Will even be fighting the same aliens as in the old game?
Because I sure cant find any similarities.

Yes. The old aliens were only controlled exosuits. CONTROLLED does not mean they are in it. That would make sense because first, the aliesn dont fit in the troopers, scouts or even the hunter. Second, that's the reason why the scouts have to recharge. When you enter the alien ship in Crysis, you see a scout beeing recharged or something that is exactly the same. Now they fight personally. You can see organic parts on the new aliens, wich the old ones didn't had.

Guess for the legs: They can only fly in a certain area around a mothership, or their homeworld. That the Scouts have to recharge is another possible proof. Now they have built legs to move around on the earth, while beeing independant to a mothership and to fight in an urban area. You CAN find similarities. The aliens in the mothership had those dreadlock/tentacles at their back, wich the new ones have, too.

The Blue machine things are only machines, and not aliens. But they are controlled by them. When you stand near a Hunter in Crysis, you can hear the mechanicle movement of certain parts of the legs. And the material doesn't have to be steel. We're dealing with aliens here, maybe they have their own material for armor.

EDIT: You have to look at the aliens as a species, not as all lool a like aliens. Like we have different Skin colours, they may have different armor and skin colours. In Crysis the naked aliens were blue, so were their suits. In Crysis 2 the aliens are Red, so is their equipment. It makes sense, you just have to look closer.

I'm glad they changed the aliens, and made them a bit humanoid.
In C1 the aliens svcked , north Koreans were way more fun to kill and had better AI.

What I have a really hard time accepting is the fact that it looks like the armors and vehicles were built by humans and not aliens.
When I first saw the PINGER in a video I was convinced that it was human-made since it has no resemblance with the aliens whatsoever (I'm still wondering if it is somehow) and it's design just looks really boring.
Also, the alien gunship looks like like any futuristic aircraft.

I find the old alien design a lot more visually interesting and think it would have been better if Crytek would have stuck with the old design but with new enemies, better AI and so on.

But in the end I think Crytek will make a reasonable explanation to these changes and make it work story-wise.

About the red color: There are red (orange) scouts and a red hunter in Crysis Warhead, the red hunter is a lot stronger than the normal blue one and has better weaponry. So since in Crysis 2 the aliens are invading rather than just exploring or something as in Crysis 1 it would be logical for them to send units who are stronger and made for combat.

I like the new ones better. One thing that bothers me though. They go through all those lengths to be armored as hell, yet their life-line(tentacles) are exposed for easy chopping?

Wish they had blue lighting. Maybe kept to their roots a bit more. The big ones should have at least had red coloring, and the rest blue, like the above poster explained.

The news one provide a challenge, the old ones, ..... they're still good though.
The only similarity I can find, is the tentacles :|

Although the new aliens are better from a technical standpoint (better AI), the Crysis 1 aliens were FAAARRRR more original, looked better and in general, were more memorable.

How many of us DONT have the GDC 2006 hunter scream embedded in our memory?

The Hunter is a brilliant piece of work, no doubt. How many of you enjoyed killing the Troopers or the Scouts though (as opposed to the NK's)?

While both look cool in their own way, I have mixed feelings over the aliens in C2 which do look a bit more robot than alien. I am going to miss a few flying aliens though :P

Those blop-like aliens you encounter in the ship in C1 is how the aliens look like overall.

I think it's the exact same alien species in C2 although they are just going to use different armor suits this time (for reasons unknown and which I would like to be explained in the game, though I do like the theory of JustNameless, Hankini and BugSlayer).

Also, I agree with that Reiger. They just got upgraded armor and weapons, with mobility enhancements... :)

How can a two-legged mech be more mobile then a flying scout though?

I wondered the exact same thing. Maybe the excuse they'll use for the change is because constantly levitating used up far too much energy (although the real reason is simply that they're more fun to kill)

I kinda hoped that the would've kept the blue tint. Sure they are the same blobs of gooey goo inside, but other then that, they do not resemble the original models at all...

my theory is that the alians in C1 were very old (as in age) and so when these new ones arrive they will have evolved/changed with new tek. Also I think that the alians have adapted these suits with two legs because (and a human form) they can then easily use our environment and weapons. Just a thought.

Maby the red colouring is like a rush of adrenilin or something for them to prep in battle, like the nanosuit for us.
And i also believe that their 'legs' are only robotic and not part of the actual alien.
