Warning: Pre-orders before the Limited Edition announcement

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 4:35 pm

Hi

I pre-ordered Crysis from the EA Store (PC Download) in July. This was before the Announcement of the Limited Edition.

Limited Edition is the same game, at exactly the same price, but with certain benefits. So, this means that if you bought your game before the Limited Edition was announced, you will receive the Normal Edition of the game, with no benefits whatsoever.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, but if it's exactly the same, a pre-order is a pre-order and it will be upgraded automatically, right? Not so. I recently contacted EA with this query and received a rather unpleasant reply. Stating, that my pre-order was for the Normal Edition and that normally they do upgrade such pre-orders automatically, but for now, they're waiting for "an official word."

I'm not quite sure how would such an official word take months to receive (it has been months since the LE was announced), but that's how it is. So, I have warned you. If you don't feel like slapping yourself in the face when the game comes out, go right ahead and cancel your pre-order and pre-order the Limited Edition. I know, I know, it's pretty annoying and tedious, but that's just the case for now.

Again, this is about pre-orders that were made BEFORE Limited Edition was announced. So, if you pre-ordered the Limited Edition, you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks
Iceman

Thank you for the heads up Iceman!

As for myself, I am still waiting for more PC information regarding multiplayer dedicated servers and modding before I pre-order. ;)

You should check with your retailer before canceling your pre-order. You are right that Limited Edition contains extra benefits free of charge, but many retailers are handing out limited edition first, regardless of which version you pre-ordered. The idea behind limited edition was first come first serve, while stocks last, I know a lot of retailers have adopted this attitude so be sure to check.

No, because the PC version will probably be cheaper than the console versions.
So it is highly unlikely you can use a PC code on the PS3.

I'm talking about the EA store. As per the customer support guy's recommendation, I've requested my pre-order to be cancelled, I shall order the Limited Edition instead now.

If the point was first come first serve, then the EA guys failed miserably, because I was about to get the short end of the stick, because I ordered it before the announcement.

Still, as it stand right now, if you pre-ordered through the EA Store before the announcement, you WILL NOT get the Limited Edition and benefits that go along with it. Simple as that. Why? Because they're waiting for some sort of an official word. My guess is that they just can't be bothered.

Thanks

I'll just get it on steam, that's always the limited edition when you pre-order on every game like that :)

Can't pre-order yet, but steam generally gets EA games listed about 3-4 weeks before release.

I got my pre order on Amazon for $46.99, so I can't complain even if it's just the normal edition:)

I never see why people pre-order so early.. I just wait til the month it comes out if not a week before. Whats the hurry? Wait and see what other pre-order bonuses other retailers are providing first, thats the smart thing to do anyways.

To me, there are no other retailers than the EA store. I don't live in America and I'm probably not gonna find a retailer that provides pre-orders in my country. Besides, Steam has always, I mean every single freakin' time asked for like 20 bucks more than on the EA store. Screw that to much.

Anyway, I've pre-ordered the Limited Edition instead now.
