What's your setup?!

Just curious how people play this. Big TV? Surround sound? Your grandma's old tube-tv? Big-ass projector?

I personally play on a 19 inch computer monitor, about 5 inches from the screen haha.
I also use an Astro A40 headset, it's pretty sweet.
My issue is that my game-playing area is also my work area, so on days when I work from home instead of in-office it's like my own personal exercise in self-control to NOT play. So instead I play on my lunch break and browse these forums all day instead of working haha.

How about you guys?

I play on a 19" pc monitor as well. I use the VGA cable with the fiber optic audio cable going to my amplifier for my home theater setup. Then I use a Turtle Beach headphone/mic setup(not the expensive ones, just the $30 one). I got a "Jasper" Xbox 360 with 250 gig HDD.

Turtle beach are solid headsets too. The only thing I have noticed (bunch of my buddies use TB) is that the headband and earpiece holder on the 30$ version is fragile, so make sure you are taking pretty good care of it. Me I have a coat hook on my wall infront of me, and when I'm done playing I just hang it up for the night :)

Yes, I am very careful with my $30 TB headphones. I want them to last, I always put them away when I'm done. :)

32" HDTV, and i'm sat about 3ft away! Don't use headphones though, as I feel a bit geeky taking it that seriously, and also feel I have a bit of an unfair advantage against people who don't, especially regarding footstep noise.

Not saying people who do use headphones are geeky/cheating, but just that I personally feel that way about myself when using them, so it's more a personal hangup than an observation.

My old roommate would run over his cords and step on his headset, hes on his third and even that one is broken right now haha.
This is what I meant, these hooks are perfect for headsets haha!

I don't feel it's cheating. A good enough headset will run you $30, which is not much considering how long it will last (if you take care of it), and how much you spend on newly released games.
In terms of it being geeky or nerdy...aside from the fact that headsets are good if you are trying not to bother other people with game noise, I am not ashamed of how nerdy I am.

Nicely done. I just fold mine up and put it on the table next to my Xbox when I am done with them and make sure the chord is not dangling on the floor where it can be tripped on, because the wire is long as hell! Which I like. :)

Oh, I agree if using them for privacy, but some people get all "MLG Pro" with their headsets and try to use them to get the drop on people, whereas I don't really want an advantage others don't. If I was to spend $30 on something to give me an unequal advantage, i'd feel like i'd bought a mod or something, which would make me feel a bit geeky.

Some people take it very seriously though, and that's fine. there's nothing wrong with trying to play to your best, but I just take it a bit more casually than that.

Haha yeah I like it too! Until my rolly chair attacks it when it's on the floor!

@Stevo
This has been debated over every single message board for every single FPS out there haha. I personally take FPS's pretty seriously; I am a very competitive person. So it seems you are talking about me lol. But that's fine, I will simply say when I do anything that I take seriously and want to do good in, I make sure I am enabling myself to do well as much as I can. Me using a headset is the same equivalent as someone spending hundreds of dollars on an expensive surround sound system. All I am doing is focusing all of the game noise on my ears, and pushing all background noise out. If hearing better is considered unfair I'm really not sure what to tell you lol.

Also as a side I will mention there is a module in this game that protects against this very thing (cover ops).

I play on 42" HDTV, sitting about 2 meters from it (about 6 feet) I don't even consider buying headset. So I don't hear any noise other than shooting and shooting and more shooting

Well, yeah, that's the drawback of using a headset - you end up with a useless perk!

You can always spot the headset users, as due to hearing footsteps so loudly they become paranoid about the volume of their own and end up using Covert Ops (or Ninja in CoD), despite this being quite useless versus the 95% of people who never hear footsteps using standard stereo speakers.

So yeah, it balances out in the end!

I use a headset only because I want the highest audio quality I can get. I get better tone and bass out of my headset when it's hooked up to my home theater amp then I do out of my speakers that are hooked up to my home theater. Also, It enables me to have good quality sound and a microphone ready all the time together. I hate the default Xbox head set. I don't ever feel like it gives me some advantage. It's just a headset, big deal.

I don't use covert ops.
However in all of the CoD games I use ninja // deadsilence.
When you play search and destroy, every sound the other team makes can give away their position (breaking glass, reloading, jumping, etc..), I don't want my dumb-ass footsteps getting in the way of me hearing that.

27" SD television (gotta wait for the wife to get her nursing job before upgrading to HD. Sadface.), Turtle Beaches, 20GB Xbox 360.

I love my TB's. They have saved my life countless times. TB X11's.
