No free saving in Crysis 2!

Post » Sun Dec 12, 2010 6:40 pm

The german magazine Gamestar played the Singleplayermode of Crysis 2 and they stated that the Pc Version will only use savecheckpoints instead of the option for free saving.

For me personally.. one more hint for a not very pc gamerfriendly game coming up.

What do you guys think?

Its not very good, but compared with 6vs6 multiplayer, I think singleplayer will be playable.

What do consoles have to do with save points? :/ Press Start, press down, press button on "Save Game".

Not every game design decision is made with hardware in mind. I personally think it makes games more challenging and more rewarding when you cant just save every 5 steps you make. You need to be skillful and plan your attacks.

I personally would rather have the opposite. No checkpoints, and as much auto saving as you want.

Didn't save for the last hour? just died? too bad. >:D

I think these guys played a build demo which doesn't allow you to save it manually.

I think when the full games comes we'll be able to save where we want. Hopefully.

I remember Far Cry allowing the user to only be able to save at checkpoints, with no manual saving, but that was fixed after a patch.

Crysis 2 will hopefully have the ability to manually save your game, as it can be extremely annoying to have to go through so much action to just die and die over and over again and start all over. Since it is the singleplayer, I think the end user should have the freedom to save wherever and whenever they want without the developer telling them otherwise. Free saving is a feature that does not need to be used, but it can be really handy to have once in a while and should be up to the end user and their freedom to decide when to use it... It does not harm anyone else when somebody decides to free save for the singleplayer. ^-^

I do not see however, what the heck free saving has to do with a non-pc friendly game. Last I checked, consoles have free saving options too.

I agree with CryAdam. Saving at checkpoints is fine. I never used QuikSave in Crysis or Warhead. In fact I attempted to play through the entire Crysis game without getting killed. Didn't manage it but it makes the game more challenging and interesting.

The worst thing for sudden instant deaths was Korean grunts throwing grenades at me when I was behind cover.

I doubt they are moving back to the Far Cry style save points. Those were painful.
It IS doable with one 'quick save' slot, but I doubt they have moved to a purely check-point-save system.

Then again it doesnt really matter as there will be a console command to force a save at your current point (like FC1, C1, etc.)

I dislike free saves, being able to save every ten seconds takes away from the skill required to complete the game, it just isn't as challenging. Checkpoints are better in my opinion, as long as they arn't spaced too far apart.

@ Cry-Adam

I didnt even mentioned the word "consoles" in my post he he.

I think thats a question of what you personally like or dislike.

But for me as a player it would be nicer to have the choice to save whenever i want if thats not challenging enough for you or others, okay then dont use F5 but thats not a good answer why there will be no quicksave at all.

some of us actually want to have fun playing a game and save whenever we want. If you want to not save its your choice but don't take it away from us. Especially when you are busy and cant wait for a check point.

He was refering to what you said when you said "this looks like it wont be PC friendly".

Also he might of been talking to the guy below you.

Question: Will it be possible to go to the menu and save there ?
Because I always thought quicksave means to press F5 or any other key ?!
So if you are able to save in the menu its not that bad that the game has no quicksave function...but if you only have this checkpoints it really svcks in my opinion.
What if you don't want to follow the story and just try out things....this would be very diificult with only having check points !!!
Does anybody have any information on that ?

^This.
How? They are trying to really hit a sweet spot with this franchise. It seems like most of you just want to stop that by complaining about something.

This game just makes me happier and more excited every day.

Most of you here are dismissing it as taking Crysis and just slicing the roots that made Crysis, Crysis. BUT remember we have yet to seen the whole game.

Only 2 Multiplayer Maps.
Only a barebones portion of single player.

Also look at it as a developers perspective. They want popularity, they want more fans, they want Crysis 2 to be a thousand times bigger then Crysis.

They made a great game called Crysis.
Now trust them in making Crysis 2 work.
It makes no sense dismissing something you have played a bit of or even none of.

To make myself clear... they said there was no free saving avialable in thei version theyve played that includes normal menu - saving and quicksaving. The tester also stated that the checkpoints were too far away from each other and though theyve played it on medium the Seph ( thats the aliens name) took more than half a magazine to kill.

if you speak german heres the article:

Maybe the game is more challenged. Modern Gamers need challenge in there FPS.

Also I could see the Seph could take so much bullets but remember the You are the Weapon trailer, you have so much abilities that its not clear why they just sat there spraying the alien.

I agree with your thoughts, especially about when you need to log off but don't want to lose your progress. Don't get me wrong, I play games for fun too, i was just posting my opinion. It doesn't matter much to me if free saving is in or not.

personally i am angry. If you die after playing for about 30 minutes and u still havent reached the checkpoint then u are screwed. I love Crysis 2 but Crytek needs to be careful on what they add. If they don make PC PS3 and XBOX360 players happy then their game wont be popular. CryAdam, I will love Crysis 2 regardless but, Crytek needs to be aware of what people want, not what they want.

As a Game Developer they have to be and I bet they are.

Its not like your going to get screwed after playing THAT FAR, there just saying that its going to be a bit challenging. But you shouldnt be worried.

I was only giving my own personal thoughts on quick saving. I have no idea what Crysis 2 will feature in that regard :) However, you can be sure that if Crytek were to use save points that they would be strategically placed before and after difficult sections so that you wouldn't have to die after 30 mins of playing and do it all over again - that would just be silly and cruel :P
