So.... No procedural destruction then....

Post » Thu Jan 06, 2011 7:50 pm

Love the gameplay and storyline, but it becomes painfully obvious how much of a console port this is when all that awesome advertised and showcase destruction of environments that was showcased seems to have just simply disapeared.
Only thing we are left with is simple objects to shoot up, but none of that awesome smashing of concrete with heavy caliber weapons, or real-time denting of metal from violent impacts.
And after Crysis and Crysis Warhead i was even shocked when my nades or even a rocket launcher wouldn't do squat against a tiny flimsy kiosk.
Not to mention how using explosives on wooden crates does nothing but throw them around.

Sadly while some things seem a step forward, other aspects that set the bar of quality and immersion have taken a huge leap back.

I know... One of the first questions I asked myself while playing was "How do I enable that cool destruction?".

Another failed promise from Crytek...

More than that, this is one of those failures that leaves one scratching ones head.
Since they clearly showcased all that stuff "in Crysis 2"

In pretty much EVERY aspect, Crysis 2 is a step backwards from the first.

YOU MY GOOD SIR ARE WRONG!
The iron sights on the SCAR are MUCH MUCH BETTER in crysis 2 than crysis 1.

Cardboard boxes are indestructable too.

However, I did mega punch a bench and end up flying upwards 100s of feet up into the air, only to fall back down again to my death.

aww guys i think you missed the point somewhere...
PROCEDURAL DESTRUCTION was advertised feature of CRYENGINE 3 not CRYSIS 2... It may be included in engine - just not in game.

So you think they made the engine for fun and dump down their flagship game just for fun and even had a nearly finished game with all features (seen in the pirated version) also just for fun?

And this vid showing all those engine stuff inside crysis 2 have been a joke?

Yes of course, makes so much sense to leave it out of the Engines flagship game.
Not to mention scrapping all those extra art assets to achieve the results.
And to not even have basic destruction in the game which was a Standard of both Crysis 1 and Warhead.

Makes perfect sense.

Completely agree. I really miss destructibility. Even trees can't be chopped down anymore, let alone there being some major building destructability... And the objects you actually can interact with get that stupid console type lines around it. Like: this car you can AMAZINGLY kick around, but this cartboard box can't be destroyed by a rocket launcher. Meh...

Well yeah cos Dx9 doesnt support destructability, once the patch comes out with at least dx10 we'll see some destruction, just be patient guys, it just means we get to play the game twice and be like WOWOWOOWOWOW the 2nd time round. ;)

Destruction has NOTHING to do with DX10 or DX11. What you see in the game is how it will stay.

Yeah, what they said.
Zilch, zero, nothing, as the original Crysis had 10 times more destructibility than Crysis 2..... in DX9.

You know i just noticed something that made this whole thing even more sadder and of a let down.

Check out this tech demo with Crysis 2 footage.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNw81NLEFCg

Notice how all the awesome physics and destruction footage is taken from..... console.... So why the heck is this all been taken away from the entire game in the end???

Actually in Crysis Wars Dx 9 severs destructability is totally different from Dx 10. Play Peak on Dx 9 it's cool, play it on Dx 10 you can destroy a lot of the wood cover making the map more open. :)

Yep, i remember the procedural segment of the cryengine 3 video, looked pretty sweet, that little segment of video got me excited about the game.
