I want an official statement!

Post » Thu Jan 06, 2011 7:21 pm

I think it's about time Crytek, namely Cevat Yerli and Nathan Camarillo, stand up and make an official statement explaining why they excluded DX10 and 11 from Crysis 2 and why failed to live up to their promise of delivering a truly PC version of Crysis 2. I still like the game, and I imagine they will fix a lot of the current problems within the next few weeks. However, I would like to know exactly what their reasoning was for releasing the PC version of Crysis 2 the way it is.

I would have been fine if they had just been straight up with us and said it was going to be a console focused game with a DX9 PC port, I still probably would have bought it. Or I would have been fine if they had delayed the PC launch 6 months in order to deliver what they promised. Sure, in both those scenarios the PC community would have been pissed, but at least we wouldn't have felt cheated and lied to.

So how about it Crytek? Can you man up and give us some straight answers for once? I think we deserve that much...

It's true that they messed up the game by making it for consoles... They saw the big money but eventually their biggest support, the PC-gamers, got a shot in the head while buying this. The graphics on PC are actually worse then on XBOX, and PS3 is even lower then the XBOX. What I think is weard since the XBOX is actually a microsoft based product... But then they exclude the option to use DX10 and DX11... Downgrade the GFX from Crysis 1. Had an auto-aim built in (try to tell me now that it isn't a console game...) I mean they should have made a PC-version and then downgraded it for PS3 and XBOX, not the other way around...

I agree the multiplayer needs to be fixed, and quick. But the issue with the multiplayer is mostly just a connectivity issue. There's nothing inherently wrong with the multiplayer. Once the bugs get worked out it will be fine.

The problem with the game as a whole is the lack of DX10/11, the lack of true PC graphics options, the lack of a SDK or any type of editor, etc. So what you have here is essentially a console game... which is fine, don't get me wrong, consoles need love too (i guess). But the fact is Crytek, and Cevat himself promised a true PC game with Crysis 2 and it's just not. So I just want to know what happened.

I agree.
And no wonder the game runs so smoothly, cos it's DX9.0!
It is a shame.
But I can tell the game is a direct Console port! Where are the Anti Aliasing options in the game? Why is it forcing me to choose between Gamer, Advanced and hardcoe graphics options?!

Unlike the Original I could put everything on hardcoe Enthusiastic. Even Crysis Warhead allowed you to do that.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the xbox version looking as good as the pc version, although the xbox version does seem a bit more polished, but i bet that is where they anticpated most of their sales to come from.

You said x360 has better graphics than PC? Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

The reason for releasing it the way it is is simple. The community demanded it be released now. So crytek released it.

Had I know that the PC version runs only DX9, I would have got it for my Xbox instead as only my Xbox is wired to the HDTV & 5.1 Surround Sound system!

I felt so cheated!
I won't play it till they release a DX11 patch.

Crysis 2 will be my LAST PC game from Crytek!

Maximum Disappointment!!!

The reason the game was released in such a state is simple: Deadline=Contract=Obligations.
They had to release it that day, come hell or high water.
They just screwed up and didn't test it enough beforehand.
I don't need a statement, I need Crysis 2 done right.

Gosh, I don′t get it:
If they had written"supports DX11" on the back of the box, everyone would go "omfg awesome DX11 graphics" :P
if noone had told you it doesn′t support DX11 yet, you wouldn′t miss anything ;)
game looks great as it is, can only get better, so what?

Crytek will not give an official statement about this because they don't give a ****.
They have ignored these questions over and over, it's getting pretty clear they are not going to answer them.

HAHA! Sorry but I most certainly would have noticed. I'm running a GTX 275 which is a DX10 card and I still noticed it wasn't DX10 within 2 minutes of playing. You are right, it does look good... if you stand 10m meters away from everything. As soon as I got up close to something I immediately went, "Umm... wtf? These graphics kinda blow".

PLUS, the fact still remains that we were promised DX11 and didn't get it. Hell, I can't even run DX11 with my current video card and I'm still pissed! At the very least I was expecting DX10, but nope, I can't even get that much. I've been wanting to get a new video card and thought Crysis 2 would be the perfect time to get one. I'm glad I didn't buy one before launch. I think I'll just wait til Battlefield 3 comes out now.

Agreed completely. So many threads about dx11 when we can't even consistently play the ENTIRE game. Fix the broken ass servers first, then we'll worry about improved graphics.
