About languages

Post » Thu Jan 06, 2011 12:34 pm

From callofduty511, a moderator I guess?

"I'm afraid this is an English only forum guys, if you wish to discuss the game in a different language please use a community site based around that language. If you're having problems with the game, feel free to contact EA Support."

Bullcrap. Where in the forum rules and license agreement does it say that users of this forum cannot write any language that is not English? Heck, the developers are from various parts of Europe and the studio is based in Germany! Who's moderating the moderators? Needs to get to work. What does it matter if it's not in English any way? You racist bastard.

On a side note, relying on EA support is as clever as giving a baby an assault rifle.

Not sure what this has to do with Crysis 2 PC discussion...

/moved to Site Discussion.

It's simple netiquette to use the language that the site clearly supports. Considering that's apparently a hassle, a rule has now been added to the site rules.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Adam, your "clearly supports" is incorrect. There will always be forum users out there who will go out of their way to try and help people who actually bought the game with whatever questions/concerns they have.

Why do you think it should only be English? I don't understand that. There will be people out there who will be able to read/write whatever language consumers have posted up and reply back. Even if they don't, they can always use google translations. Although they are not 100% correct, it still gives users the idea of what they're talking about.

You're not hurting the forums when you censor them, you're only hurting future Crytek sales because of poor quality support from forum admins who won't allow questions from people who bought the game, and not understand English. Acknowledge that.

You might be trying to protect those who are bashing them to type in English, but haters are going to hate. There's no changing that. You can't change that.

By "clearly supports" i'm talking about site content. The portal is all in English. The forums are all displayed in English. Navigation bars and links are all in English, etc.

Why do you think it should only be English? I don't understand that. There will be people out there who will be able to read/write whatever language consumers have posted up and reply back. Exactly the point. With translators so easily available and being fairly decent for basic communication, it's really easy for people to all use English on the site.

Cheers!

that post above is what you get for advocating google translations ;-)

anyways, i think it's safe to say that if you can afford all the stuff necessary to play online and are allowed to use the internet, chances are high you live in a country with high living standards, for example public schools in which you could've learned english (it's really not that hard), because it is THE international language right now. nothings gonna change that, deal with it.

Let's see here. MANY people post vulgar and offensive posts with regards to other users, the developers, and the game itself yet their posts are tolerated. As soon as a post containing a language other than English pops up, it gets locked or deleted.

Tell me which is worse: offensive posts in English or a legitimate post in another language?

Also tell me this: how does a language other than English hurt the forum?

Whats the point in keeping a post in another language if nobody can understand it? Its not racism, its just the fact it is pointless having a post nobody can read.

You have no idea how many threads/posts get deleted because they're deleted. To suggest that we tolerate foul language is completely incorrect. In contrast to your point, we are far more tolerable towards non-English posts than we are to abusive posts. However, for the benefit of all users, we ask that posts are made in English.

Yes, the point being how can someone other than an admin know how many threads are deleted?
