Freespace 1 & 2

Awesome games, I loved the story and really wish that there was some contiuation of this series, or even a spin off. The story line would probably be up to scratch for a RPG SW: KOTOR type game. Image

Have you been over to the Hard Light Productions site?
The people over there have done a brilliant job in terms of enhancing Freespace 2 and creating excellent new mods and total conversions.

Yep, the Beyond the red line battlestar conversion looks very promising.

I just really liked the freespace universe there were a lot of unanswered questions about the Shivens plus I'd like a chance to give them some pay back in a later game  Image

It's a lot easier to keep an old game alive when you have access to the code, I'm pleased to see that it's more acceptable to make games open source now. I was somewhat shocked when Microsoft released the code to Mechcommander 2.

But you are correct the guys at Hard Light Productions have put a lot of hard work into Freespace 2. The code they got wasnt the full code but had the code for playing the MVE format movies removed so they added DivX support to the game to get around that issue. It's impressive to see what can be done with an engine that is in reality quite old. Image

The games are being sold for like six bucks each at gog.com. Digital download with no DRM. The descent and freespace games are and I am really looking forward to playing them again.

I love projects like Hard Light; they take a good game and make it even better imho. I *just* found out about it a few days back and plan to look more in to it when I actully buy the Freespace games.

Ah, Freespace. A brilliant game, and I have to say has one of my most surprising moments in playing games:

Freespace 2

"DIVE, DIVE, DIVE! Hit your burners pilot!"

Stood there thinking "Eh?" then suddenly a Shivan Juggernaught turns me into spacekill

Freespace 2 is one of the better Space sims out there, i think it still beats the crap out a bunch of new ones.

If Freespace 3 comes out i will be one of the guys who buys it !

It now has a sub-forum under Descent. The first FreeSpace was a Descent spin-off, wasn't it? The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

It had to be called Descent Freespace because there was a hard drive compression application called Freespace at the time.

Early drafts also had the storylines tied together--the Freespace pilot was supposed to be looking for Descent 2's lost Material Defender--but it was shifted away during development. Similar to how Red Faction was originally a Descent prequel.

Maybe if they had stayed with the Descent storyline in these spinoffs, they'd have a stronger property... but then we wouldn't have the wonderful Freespace storyline we have now, would we?

It's currently being sold online at GOG.com. Speaking of which, anyone wants a GOG beta invite? The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

Works with the mods, too. An original gamesas fan, also known as Sol Invictus and Exitium. Currently running Hellforge, an original Diablo III community.

So. It's been a long time ago I've bought Freespace Game. August 1998. 10 years have passed. All these years I've been thinking about the continue of the Freespace saga. Found many rumors while surfing the net. But the main question remain crystal-clear: "Will this epic story reach it's end?" Or like in the end score of FS1: "...but not in my lifetime,..."
Hope, this question have been already asked to the gamesas stuff, but i'd like to repeat it:
Will there be Freespace 3 title? Or maybe there will be a movie? Cause its a good chance for gamesas to grow up once again. Yup, I see there will be a bunch lot of the conversations to the designers of the Freespace, that not easy - I know.Cause without them Freespace will not be Freespace as it suppose to be.
Look around, there are a lot of new technology. A great field to revive a title. Implement lot of new features.Widen the world, make some spin-offs.Feed the fans with what they wait so long, and earn money.
Look for example to EVE-Online.What we see - yup we see there what happened to the squadwar(FS2).

But 3 things should remain same:

1. the scenario by the original developers
2. music by the original developers
3.The game should not looks like (XBOX,PS,Wii - choose whatever) only title.PC - first,others - next.

I hope you get my point. And I really hope, that someone from gamesas stuff will read that post.
Thank you for your time.
Anyway, I'll be looking forward next 10 years...
