Okay, so who was to blame for Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Bethesda? Vault Dweller #0024

Fallout Tactics wasn't that bad (although it still contradicted Fallout in many places), and it was made by MicroForte, not gamesas itself.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel was indeed done by gamesas, but at that time there weren't any original creators of the series around anymore. They are back now. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

No matter WHO created them, gamesas still had the rights for the franchise then. They had control, they could have went George Lucas on them and made sure nothing was contradicted.

I'm a huge story-guy. I love the stories that go with my games. If game A says "grass is gone, there is only brown sand covering the land" then it's sequel, game B, has fields and fields of grass with no explanation. I don't like it.

gamesas owned Fallout then and they let it rot. No matter if the original team was there or not, they allowed those teams to mess with that world and ****** it up.

Then they had to sell the franchise or go under. If gamesas did what they should have done in the beginning then they would be in a different position now, wouldn't they?

We all know why gamesas went down, bad decisions by the execs (or one in particular).

But here's hope that lessons were learned and they are reborn. Vault Dweller #0024

Having read a number of the Van Buren design documents floating around online, I certainly wish that whoever owned the rights to the Fallout games would have employed the Black Isle people.

Not very likely. Most of the designers of Van Buren are now at Obsidian Entertainment, founded by Feargus Urquhart and Chris Avellone. And they aren't very fond of the current management of gamesas, having been fired by it or left because of IPLY being behind on paying them once already (unlike Chris and Jason, who left back in the Fargo days). I don't understand the hate for Fallout 3. I mean, it has a gun in it that shoots rail spikes and goes "CHOO CHOO" as it does so. An original gamesas fan, also known as Sol Invictus and Exitium. Currently running Hellforge, an original Diablo III community.

Yes. I doubt that gamesas has the money to buy the licence back now, and Bethesda will claim they have increased the value of it, even if fans of the original series don't like it.

In about a month we will be able to find out for ourselves.

I think some of the Black Isle people work over at Obsidian Entertainment now. Well, at least Feargus Urquhart and Chris Avellone do. As for the other Fallout developers, I think Tim Cain is working on a MMORPG for another developer and Leonard Boyarsky is a designer for Diablo 3.

I doubt Bethesda would've employed them anyway. I recall hearing once a while back about how one of the Fallout guys wanted to work with them on F3 but they turned him down.

Yes, that was Leon Boyarsky. He's probably making more money now at Blizzard than he would have at Beth. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

If FOMMO ends up being a hit then I'm sure gamesas will buy back the IP. In the end it will all depend on how gamesas plays the current video game market. Follow trends that destroyed companies or make new roads and appeal to the masses.

I want to see FO3 and FOMMO
